ACT rescuers off to Queensland

This in from the ESA:

8:15pm Tuesday 11 January 2011 – Two ACT specialist firefighters to help out in Queensland flood emergency The ACT will send two specialist urban search and rescue firefighters from the ACT Fire Brigade to Queensland tomorrow to assist with the flood emergency.

The firefighters will be part of a taskforce being deployed out of Sydney for a seven day period following a formal request from QLD authorities tonight to Fire and Rescue NSW.

The ACT Emergency Services Agency has sent a total of 15 ESA MAPS volunteers to work with Red Cross QLD since 29 December. This is expected to continue for some time.

The ESA has offered further assistance to its QLD counterparts but are yet to receive any other requests for help at this stage.
