ACT Roadworkers continue to mislead with wrong signage

lane closures

The selection criteria for being accepted as a roadworker is obviously not particularly stringent – do they fail anyone who scores above 25% in their final exams?!

And this is the contractor that boasts they are “Leaders in civil contracting” – I wonder what the rest of the ACT’s civil contractors are like…

Maybe have a Roadwork Fail day similar to the Parking Monday

What do these arrows and bars mean anyway?

If anyone else posted this I would assume it was a joke.

But Mr G? I can’t help thinking he seriously does not know what these signs mean.

Arrows are great for shooting animals with.
I have a bar, where I can sit quietly and drink beer.
Perhaps a combination of the two can be extrapolated to mean “shoot down to the local”. It’s directions on how to get to the nearest drinking establishment, simple.

You win at life.

You mean there is actually a selection criteria for being a roadworker? hahahaha Interestingly an old school friend of mine who was academically brilliant with a wicked sense of humour spent a few years spinning the stop/go stick on country roads just prior to his death, sadly.

Mind you he was the exception to the rule..

I’ve seen them several times on this job recently.

I hope they were trying to speed things up a bit, as I think it’d be darn near impossible to do 40, let alone over that speed on that road.

All ACT traffic management plans are approved by the experts in ACT Roads. Don’t blame the workers for it entirely.

Still needs a ‘Police are enforcing roadworks signage’ (or whatever the sign says) to score a full-house.

They’ve got that one too – just a bit further up out of the photo (about near the blue car you can just see in the distance). Those signs are a complete joke though – in the whole 15 months it took Hewatt Earthworks to change the RSPCA roundabout into a set of traffic lights, I only ever saw the police there once.

I liked when this particular bunch of contractors decided rearrange some road cones in peak hour traffic, a couple of Fridays back. It caused a traffic jam that stretched back over McCulloch St & spilt onto Carruthers St.

It took 30 minutes just to get to the end of McCulloch St. I was expecting an accident or something pretty serious to cause that type of delay.

But no, just two road workers, rearranging some fluorescent cones.

Thanks for bringing this up. Congrats to the road workers who thought it would be a good idea on Wednesday to close half the Hindmarsh and Yamba Dr intersection at 5pm. One of the busiest intersections in Canberra and they had traffic banked back to Adelaide Av, good work boys!
Face it, they won’t read this anyway, they can’t even arrange some logical signs properly so reading must be beyond grasp.

Dyslexia much?

I think we are all misunderstanding the requirement for roadworks signs… Clearly there is no requirement for them to be correct, there is simply a requirement that they *exist*.. 🙁

No one ever reads or obeys them anyway. I have lost count of the number of times I have seen signs like those above, applied correctly, which are meant as warnings to get in the correct lane before it’s too late, yet you still have idiots going full pelt and hitting the anchors when they see the road end. The same people then also try and force their way into the continuing lane like they have the right to, which they don’t as you need to give way when changing lanes.

It’s easy, just stop and do a u-turn, doesn’t say you can’t do that.

That one is easy, you can’t drive on the grass, OR use the bike lane… Pfft..

You just have to read them left to right, but as one sign instead of two!

Can someone please just “accidentally” knock the wrong one down? Problem solved.

I’m sure at least one of them is right !
