The Australian Bureau of Statistics has announced the release of national fertility statistics:

Tasmania had the highest fertility rate, with 2.18 babies per woman, while the Australian Capital Territory had the lowest at 1.74.

But remember, if we don’t make our own babies we have to put up with other peoples.

We can import babies for a fraction of the cost of locally made. I bet the government has never done a cost benefit analysis.

Well it IS a labor government, costings and perceived returns reporting is for those out of touch liberals.

Is it because young canberra men are chasing the wrong species?

I’d wager that the figure of 1.74 is propped up heavily by Tuggeranong teenagers.

and Gunghalin refugee’s!

Why the possessive apostrophe and incorrect spelling? I thought you RAAF chappies were a little more erudite than that

Between you and me, he’s not actually in the RAAF, he’s a crazy homeless dude posting from Kippax Library. The whole army persona comes out as an alternate personality in response to the self-loathing he feels because of his … *cough* … peculiar s3xual orientation.

Yup, if you start reading back through his older posts you’ll kick yourself for not seeing how obvious it was to begin with.

Two words: housing affordability.

Maybe he is and he drives the fuel truck?

It aint my fault. It’s not for tryin’.

…well…too smart to get knocked up by the sperm on offer in Canberra anyway.

Can’t you buy it online now? I’m sure there’d be some knuckled dragging Tasmanian out there that’d be more to your liking! 🙂

Anyway, the odds are stacked in a Tasmainian women’s favour – there’s nothing else to do at night time but shag, especially in Winter.

I can help those ACT stats out. Just saying. 😉

And the 1.74 figure is a problem…why?

We can import babies for a fraction of the cost of locally made. I bet the government has never done a cost benefit analysis.

a working family needs to have only one member of that family employed for one hour or more per week – I don’t make the rules – it’s just the way it is!

But people in that position don’t need childcare.

That said, so we actually want to increase the fertility rate in Canberra? Wouldn’t it make more sense to discourage people having kids, and encourage them to adopt sixteen year olds? They wouldn’t need childcare and could start being productive right away, while any education they under take would support the Unis and TAFE CIT.

In Canberra, there is a high participation rate of women in the workforce. If women want to get ahead they need to stay employed, and taking time off can have negative impact on future employment prospects. If we want to increase the Canberra fertility rate, we need either, to provide better childcare facilities, and support for working families.

Or import more bogans.

…and support for working families.

How many members of a family have to be employed, and for how many hours a week, for them to be considered working families?

Kevin … is that you?

And judging by those stats, most of those ‘other peoples’ babies we’d be putting up with would be Tasmanian!
