Chief Minister and Super Comrade Stanhope, merrily informs us he is seeking public comment on a draft ‘Action Statement on dance in the national capital’.

He also enlightens us on the $400,000 of taxpayers’ money being donated to local ‘dancers’, notwithstanding the bureaucracy toiling away behind the scenes as well. Oh, it is also good to hear that the ACT has a ‘cultural committee’ (whatever that means).

the act cultural council has been doing sterling service for yonks, working with (but not for!) artsACT and advising the minister of arts on arts issues. they appoint and approve the panels and their outcomes per the act arts funding rounds each year and generally comprise directors and ceos etc of arts institutions, like choreographic centre, tuggeranong arts centre, 2xx, etc…

yes, it’s good to see we have an arts council.

and dance is much more than a few hippie arts students flailing about interpretively… many communities celebrate their traditions through dance and many people enjoy social dance from samba to tango to ballroom, and beyond. it is an issue that touches, if sometimes only lightly, on a broad sector of our community.

i hope mr jonathon puts a sub, ission in.

if noone gets this – go and see ‘razzle dazzle’.

its an oz film , so hurry before it disappears from the multiplex.

This aims to attract swinging voters.
