ACTPLA gets tough on the Kingston Foreshore

ACTPLA has the surprising news that they’ve actually knocked back non-complying development applications on the Kingston Foreshore!

Chief Planning Executive Neil Savery said the two development proposals on Trevillian Quay exceeded height regulations, did not comply with ground level frontage and did not provide any potential for active frontage on either the quay or lake sides.

“As the statutory decision-maker under the Planning and Development Act, ACTPLA has refused the development applications after making a detailed assessment of the proposals against the Territory Plan,” Mr Savery said.

Who knows what might flow from this new found strength of purpose!

This is consistent with planning in the ACT – developers put in clearly non-compliant DAs, knowing that most of the time they’ll be approved.

ACTPLA are a bit tough on these particular Kingston proposals because of the last ACAT disaster for them.

The only reason these got knocked back was not because they were bad planning, but because rival developers will appeal, and win, which exposes ACTPLA for what it is – an incompetent rubber stamp for developers, except where community outrage (and rival developers) occasionally get a rare victory for commonsense and sound planning outcomes.

Savery must have finally learnt after all the butt kickings he has got after approving all the other developments that did not comply with the Territory Plan.. They say there’s a first time for everything..

Probably some more money from developers, in order to gain an exemption from the regulations theyre not in compliance with. Isnt that the way it normally works when ACTPLA rejects a submission from a developer?
