Thursday night saw Adam Verwey front All Bar Nun in O’Connor for the RiotACT Sim Challenge.

In the course of the night it became clear that what had raised the hackles of many of you on his website was really an attempt to be himself in writing. He came across to us as a genuinely nice guy with a really warm sense of humour. And for those knocking the blazer, all becomes clear at the end of the video as he explains what was going on there.

He also brought a large group of friends that most people would be proud to have, and in the finest Australian tradition they heckled him rather than advising.

Adam went for organic growth and sustainability in his city. He won awards for his environmentalism.

After three hours he’d played 11 game years and reached a relatively small population of 12,281. In that time he’d run mostly balanced budgets and hadn’t needed to borrow to fund capital expenditure.

His industrial regions were set far from his residential areas, and he encouraged agricultural development.

Heavy industry and high density were discouraged in Adam’s city of Brindabella Heights and he got high marks for his traffic flow, health and education.

He finished with eight bars of approval.

Oh, and at the crowd’s urging he built a Sphinx, it seemed to make people happy.

bit of confusion here, isn’t sphinx the plural? should it really be a spink?

I’m pretty sure it’s singular in all the classical sources.

Hehe, we should have a sphinx here in Canberra…

Geelong already did that. It didn’t live up to expectations.

A sphinx eh? Now that would be some public art that we could all agree on.

Damn fine suggestion that man!

*chuckle*

Adam Verwey is hot to trot.
