Hi All,

I’m in my 30’s and looking to get back into exercising, the one exercise I love is dancing but truth be told I’m pretty cr@p at it.

I’m looking for a dance studio that teaches adults and is fun! Perhaps where the occasional overweight 30 year old wouldn’t look completely ridiculous? Wouldn’t mind hip hop or salsa? Maybe ceroc? I don’t know, open to suggestions!

Prefer Northside, (Belconnen, Gungahlin or Civic).

Thanks in advance for your recommendations 🙂

I find it all depends on the music you like. I personally like current and recent pop songs as well as the blues so I head to Audacity Dance for my West Coast Swing dance fix. Put ‘West Coast Swing’ into YouTube and check it out. That goes for any other style of dance.

Hi Happy Lady
I have just the thing for you!

I am about to start a new, fun and social program of dance to Irish music- very easy to get started and no experience required. This is designed for people who just want to get out and do something & we welcome everyone.

This is mostly not Irish dancing per se, but dance & movement to Irish music- choices are:

SHINE! – like line dancing to Irish music,
BROOM-BROOM – energetic and fun dancing with a broom (!)
GLIDE: Elegant Irish dance for two – dancing with a partner.
Social dancing session will follow these classes.

COME & TRY IT NIGHT – Dance nibbles of 15 minute classes you can watch or join in
MONDAY 13th October starting at 6pm after work at the Hellenic Club in Civic (not Woden).

8 weeks classes will start on Monday 20th October.
Love to see you there!

As long as you’re not averse to swing music, I’d suggest Lindy Hop – very social dance, huge range of ages (back when I turned up regularly there’d be people ranging from 18 through to around 60), you don’t need to turn up with a partner, and great exercise – I lost about 50 kg after I started.

The two main groups in Canberra are http://www.jumptown.org and http://www.canberraswingkatz.com , I’d highly recommend both. Both have classes available northside.
