The Police & Citizens Youth Club in Turner is being rundown and abandoned and is to be I am told on good authority never to be a PCYC again !!@@#@@!

I am astonished that such a wonderful club would be considered no longer necessary

I will be lobbying to get this club upgraded and reopened

I have it on good authority that there is plenty of support within the AFP to get the PCYC in Turner back and functioning

As far as I know that building was given to the people of Canberra for the purpose of being a PCYC for all time, not to be treated as a financial asset.

Shame ACT PCYC Shame !!!

Anyone wanting to join with me in lobbying the ACT Leg Ass and the AFP please call me on 0403 902 739 or home 6241 1018

It may still need rebuilding, even if it stays as community zoning.

I spent many nights there in the 70’s as my dad was a boxing instructor. Sad to see it become another set of units.
I’m sure there’s plenty of community groups that would like to use it.

I thought that when it was first closed and the Charnwood PCYC opened, that there was a general acknowledgement that PCYC could serve a wider demographic of teenagers who need the facilities in West Belconnen, than they could in the CBD.

Sounds homo-erotic – I prefer Police Citizens Youth Club (PCYC

I did judo there, back in the days when it was called The Police Boys Club.

I was using the gym at the PCYC in Turner regularly up until they closed about a year ago. I was in there many mornings when building inspectors were going over the place. The manager (at least the guy who was running the place during the day) told me that they’d been patching it up for years and had run out of options.

Now – I never got a refund on my $20 membership for the year (like I’d ever go to Charnwood!) but I figured there are worse places to lose my money to.

I thought he PCYC was structuraly unsafe and that the move to charnwood was a temporary one until the turner location can get restumped or whatever it is.

Was unaware it was earmarked for demolition.

Valuable inner-city real estate applied to a community purpose? That’d be in la-la-land now, wouldn’t it…
