ACT Policing has responded to an aggravated burglary at a unit block in Reid during which a man in his twenties was attacked with a machete.

Police were called to the unit block on the corner of Ainslie Avenue and Gooreen Street at 12.30pm today (Wednesday, June 6). On arrival, police found a man who had sustained a single machete wound to his leg.

The man was treated by ACT Ambulance officers at the scene before being taken to The Canberra Hospital.

Police believe the man was attacked after letting another man into his home. The exact circumstances of the incident and the relationship between the two men are subject to an ongoing investigation.

AFP Forensics officers attended the scene and have conducted an examination of the unit.

ACT Policing is currently searching for the man believed to be responsible for the aggravated burglary. He is described as being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander appearance, approximately six foot tall, of solid build and wearing a purple hooded jumper with white writing and dark-coloured long shorts.

Anyone who may be able to assist with the investigation is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers website on www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.

Wow, that is pretty bad……

I know, not being able to afford a knife and having to use a machete is a real statement about the cost of living in Canberra/most southern Sudan.

Seriously? A violent crime committed by a black guy in a hoodie… ?

I know, right? Because black guys are violent criminals! And I’ve never, ever seen blurry security cam pics of white guys in hoodies on The RiotACT! Or white guys without hoodies, either! Or read stories about women, say, stabbing somebody to death in Charny.

I mean, apart from the bit about blacks, and guys, and hoodies, you totally have some deep insight into violent crime!

It seems that putting all the low lifers of Canberra into a single place in the heart of the city wasn’t such a great idea.

That’s why they are slowly being moved out to the suburbs to stop “slums.”

Then you have the problem of instead of them just annoying themselves and each other, now every street has a house that is a problem child. The house is given to them so they have no sense of ownership and don’t care about the rest of society.

I say let them, hit themselves with machetes, better then hitting someone unknown public servant.

Maybe a good plan would be to swap locations: asylum seekers can occupy northbourne flats until a court has determined if they can stay in the country, and inner city low lifers get free accomodation (and machetes) on christmas island. So christmas island could be useful for *something* after all. 🙂

I approve. Would solve a lot of problems and I guarantee asylum seekers would be a lot more thankful than the current scum are.

Don’t think the northbourne flats are in Ainslie. Do you?

When I posted it said it was flats in Braddon, hence the comparison to other flats in Braddon.

Now that it says Ainslie Ave it gives a better explanation to where it is.
