Airport Flyover complete? That's what CAG thinks!

I have noticed one of the signs promoting the flyover at Piallago Av at the airport now has a red tape over it (similar to a Sold By sign in real estate) with a tick saying “Now Complete”.

Sure, the floyover is open for traffic but it is in no way complete.

It must be an attempt to claim the project finished in March as the sign stated.

Now for any astute observer, the reason the flyover is not complete is that the surface at either end of the flyover is not complete (there is still another layer of hotmix to go), the lane markings are still only temporary, there are two off-ramps that are still closed, and the roadwork speed limits are still imposed.

Just curious as to what others think about claiming something is complete when in fact it isn’t.

Yeah, I saw it the other day and thought the same. I don’t know if it’s a good or bad thing that I wasn’t upset, angry or shocked…!

Could it be some Project Manager meeting his deadline to obtain his bonus?

The Pialligo end of the Flyover’s citybound side is a mess. The old markings are showing through the black paint, and in the wet reflections off the old markings make things worse.

The press release says it marks a MILESTONE in the airport roads upgrade not that everything if fully complete. As for the airport advertising I saw that myself the other day and again it says the flyover is complete, which it is.

As for the missing layer of hotmix, again that is normal. Once everything else is done they will put down the final layer and mark it properly. If they were to do it now then the final surface will have markings which will have to be blacked out, something that would give the whingers on this board something else to whinge about. In fact I reckon it should be changed from the RiotACT to the WingeACT.

I get the extra layer of hotmix and agree that it is sensible to do that but the mere fact that the markings are temporary and the extra layer still required means therefore the road is not complete despite radio ads and road signs to the contrary. The flyover: you could argue the bridge itself is complete because it is marked out and all layers of hotmix have been laid but the road sign (my initial rant) shows the off-ramps and approaches not just the bridge so my argument therefore is that the works according to the picture is not complete. Pedantic I know but just saying.

they’ve been running short (one sentence) promos on 104.7, claiming that it is completed, and have been doing so for several weeks now.

When I heard the news, I detoured to have a look.

I thought that I must have passed through a time warp, or that someone had redefined “finished”. As pointed out earlier, there is still a shirt load, Brian, an absolute shirt load more to do.

Typical of his Chieflyness.

isn’t ‘airport flyover’ a bit of an ambiguiously misleading name?

Who is declaring it open, the Government or Mr Snow and Co? My bet is Mr Snow.

From the esteemed office of The Great Leader:

Who is declaring it open, the Government or Mr Snow and Co? My bet is Mr Snow.

Coming soon to an ACT Government media release near you:

Cancer cured
Ongoing Middle East peace achieved
Global Financial Crisis solved
Bank providing mortgages for ACT Land Rent housing scheme named

(Ok, I know the last one is taking it too far…)

could of sworn I had posted “par for the course round here” as post 1, gremlins? – agree with Spectra. It’s all spin

good answer p1, good answer…

No worse than claiming a prison that is incapable of housing prisoners is “open”, I suppose.
