This in from ACT Policing:

ACT Policing has arrested two men, one aged 24 and the other 25, overnight for anti-social behaviour related offences.

Around 11pm last night (Friday, December 10), police attended City Walk near Akuna Street following reports of an assault at that location. Upon arrival, police spoke with two men and a woman who reported they had just been assaulted. One of the male victims had recorded the two alleged offenders on his mobile phone, and provided this footage to police.

A short while later, police attended Vernon Circle and located two men matching the footage provided by the victim. They were both arrested and taken to the ACT Watch House.

The men were released on Watch House bail this morning, and will face the ACT Magistrates Court this Friday (December 17) charged with two counts of common assault and one count of affray.

This comes in the lead-up to Operation Unite which will be taking place next weekend, where police will be out in force targeting alcohol related violence.

We don’t know that it was unprovoked.

I can assure you it was very much unprovoked. If anything it was these two people who were attempting to initiate a fight and they managed to assault 6 different people in a matter of minutes who were just unlucky enough to be walking in the area.
This sort of thing happens all the time but people are rarely caught. I only hope that the court uses this as an oppoutunity to send a strong message to the community about this time of behaviour. However, given their trackrecord with criminal offences, it’s not likely.

… I find it so hard to understand why people engage in unprovoked and pointless violence like this.

We don’t know that it was unprovoked. I am happy they will be fronting the courts to explain themselves though.

They did know they were being filmed because they turned on the poor guy soon after. I might be completely niave, but I find it so hard to understand why people engage in unprovoked and pointless violence like this.

About time a mobile phone camera was used to help Police…

…on purpose.

What bugs me is how the miscreants didn’t know they were caught on camera?

Good thinking 99
