Alistair Coe nailing his colours to the motoring mast

The Liberals’ Alistair Coe has let us all know that he’s handing over money on behalf of the ACT Council of Motor Clubs.

The presentation of the cheque took place at the ACT Branch of Shannons Insurance in Fyshwick this morning.

The funds were raised as part of the Shannons Wheels vehicle display held earlier this year. Since the event began in 1982, almost $400,000 has been raised for local charities. At this year’s event, 1100 vintage, veteran classic and modified vehicles, commercial and motor cycles were on display at the lawns in front of Old Parliament.

Without wanting to be in any way critical of the fundraising efforts it looks like a pattern is emerging here.

The strange obsession with car parks, the deep interest in anything to do with cycling amenity…

Is Alistair a secret agent of the motorists party? He certainly seems to want their votes.

He’s doing his job, and doing it well.

I have given Coe some feedback and to his credit he has responded, promptly and coherently. Good on him for at least listening to what people want. As a cyclist I appreciate the green paint. As a taxpayer, yes it sounds expensive. It’s hard in opposition but credit points for getting around his community. Governments, especially mature ones, need some gingering.

Maybe he just likes cars…..that’s not a crime is it?

He’s a tosser

As long as he doesn’t start with the green paint crap again.

As Alistair is shadow minister for urban services, I would be more concerned if he didn’t. It’s his job. Good on him for attempting to keep the government accountable.

Perhaps we are more used to MLAs we dont hear from except in the lead up to elections.

He’s doing a good job getting involved and showing a proper interest for a young guy in his first term in the assembly. Far more so than a good handfull of members in the Government and Greens ranks.

I say good on him, and the ACT Council of Motor Clubs for supporting a very worthwhile cause.

The Motoring movement in Canberra gets a bad wrap from things like “rushhour” and the like, It’s good to show that not everyone out there is a Hoon, and that over what 25 years the council is giving something back to the community
