All Bar Nun gets a chance to bid on its building

The Canberra Times is celebrating that the owners of O’Connor’s Sargood Street building are putting it up for auction which will allow All Bar Nun’s operators to have a crack at securing their future.

All Bar is a bit of a mixed blessing for the residents of Turner and O’Connor.

On the one hand a subsection of their clientelle are notorious for smashing letterboxes and car windows, one of their bouncers doesn’t like freak bikes, the kitchen can be absolutely dire, and they think that bacon is a vegetarian option (see picture below).

On the other hand it’s a grand spot to have a beer and watch the Inner North go by, they have some excellent beers on tap, and they’ve been very accomodating of RiotACT’s strange needs of powerpoints and the use of plasma screens over the years.

But on balance I know I’d be gutted if it wasn’t there. So here’s hoping things go well.

Bacon is a vegetable

Vegetarians are not made better by bacon. Depending on the vegetarian they can be made sad, angry, nauseous, ranty, or any other kind of not better. Bacon makes my sparkles less sparkly 🙁

But they make a yummy salad 🙂

I hear vegetarians are made all those thing even when not eating meat. Its the iron deficiency you see.

I have long intended to visit this establishment, and my appetite has been whetted by the menu published above.

Disappointing to hear, however, that the ‘riff-raff’ (Sid, no.4) have moved on. A Sunday without a good pub brawl can make for a dreary day indeed.

I miss Delicate Eating, or whatever it was called.

Pfft. Everyone knows bacon is a condiment not a meat.

Oh Yes!

It doesn’t mention “vegetarian” anywhere on that photo that I can see. And what isn’t made better by bacon?

They have zuccini balls and chicken. Those are vegetables.

They should be shut down for including an apostrophe in nachos.

No, it indicates that the (v) belongs to the Nacho, which is actually a misspelling of “Macho”.

The (V) in that case stands for “valetudo”, therefore the dish offers “Bean and Cheese Macho for good health,” the “Macho” being the bacon, which, as an integral ingredient, stops it being a pansy vegetarian dish.

(humph . . . grumpf . . . snort . . . yawn). Sorry . . . just dozed off wondering just how many single-bedroom units and on how many levels a cashed up developer could fit on that site.

(Yes, I’m aware of the operation of the Retail Tenancies Act and current zoning. Just trying to zest up a slow Fridee arvo a bit with a change of line and length LOL).

C’mon,
even Veggos need a sneaky bacon hit every now and then.

I always find it amusing to sneak a bit of meat in a vegetarian dish and then watch the veggos rave about how fanstastic it is.

I do the same thing with people who claim to not want to eat human flesh.

How could they know unless they try it!? 😛

Your own or someone else’s?

I can imagine you serving up dinner (sans arm), and the guests saying “mmm, this lobster tastes delicious.”

It’s only funny until they catch you.

I thought “V” was the mark for the call to arms for the resistance against the reptiods…

Mmmmm, somehow I missed that “V”. Must not have been giving the RA my usual attention.

Perhaps the “V” means you get five of them in a serve… 🙂

V has a vego option usually… by removing the bacon

Big letter V?

I’m glad most of the riff-raff that used to populate ABN on a Sunday have moved off to Suburban. It’s now back to being a great place to enjoy a few ciders in the sun on a Sunday arvo as you gather your thoughts after a big Saturday night. There had been a pretty bad vibe there on Sundays for the last few years.

I don’t mind All Bar Nun per se, I just wish it hadn’t taken over the old Delicateating site. I know it was there for taking after a few unsuccessful attempts at a restaurant, but IMO ABN dominates O’Connor Shops too much. Some more diversity would be nice.

Although, I do agree with JB, the shops would be (potentially) worse off without ABN.

Nacho’s? Garlic aioli – is there another kind? Also, do they have a special ‘drizzle chef’ in the kitchen?

Still, it is rare to find a menu anywhere that does not contain howlers like these.
