The Liberals Zed Seselja is celebrating the ascension of Vicki Dunne to the Speaker’s chair in the Legislative Assembly:
“I am very proud to not only lead the biggest Liberal Party Room in the Territory’s history, but also for a member of our team to be given the opportunity to serve as Speaker of the ACT Legislative Assembly,” Mr Seselja said today.
“I have served alongside Mrs Dunne for two terms, and having observed her in her time before that, it is a well deserved recognition of many years of selfless service for the people of Canberra and in particular those of Ginninderra.
“Mrs Dunne has been Assistant Speaker since 2008 and her new role as Speaker is a reflection of her experience in public office and her expertise in parliamentary process.
While Labor may have clung onto power having to take a Green Minister (at the expense of one of their own) and a Liberal Speaker, on top of having to pretty much adopt the Green policy platform are stinging reverses for the party.
It will be fascinating to see how a Liberal dominated committee system, with a Liberal speaker, goes after the Government over the next few years.
