Supa Productions are currently advertising their latest production “All Shook Up” with us. Last night they were kind enough to let me go to a rehearsal, allowing for a review pre-opening night.

All Shook Up is part of the new wave of rock musicals where (normally dead) artists with a much loved body of work get their songs shoe-horned into enough of a story to get from one song to the next.

So in this case the beloved artist is Elvis Presley and the story it’s been shoe-horned into is Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night.

But the whole point of these things is to look at the pretty people and enjoy the songs.

So it’s fortunate that the cast are exceptionally good looking and the singing is superb.

The closing number of the first act, “Can’t Help Falling in Love” literally had every hair on my body standing on end.

There’s also plenty of funny lines well delivered, and an extraordinary collection of cool biker jackets.

Roy Hukari is very, very good as the elvis-esque “Chad”, but for mine Emilie Van Os steals the show with an incandescent performance as Natalie.

If you like your musical theatre with an emphasis on the music, or if you just love Elvis songs, it’s well worth checking out.

It’s running from tonight until 30 May. Booking details on the Supa Website.

(Oh, and congratulations to Mirage3, our premium member who won the two tickets to opening night tonight)

Lucky to see the show both nights so far… First night was great. Second night was so much better – no second night blues, people getting more comfortable with their on stage performance. The comic lines delivered with great timing, beautiful beautiful Singing. You are right – “Can’t Help Falling in Love” is just magic!!!

Especially loved the characters of Natalie, Dean, Dennis, Slivia but a great performance by all.

Well done guys

in my still sore and sorry state i am unlikely to get so shook up, but roy (pictured) was fabulous in the wall and if that is any likely indication [and it probably is!], then this will be one not to miss. so don’t. there. like what mirage said and stuff.

Thanks very much for the tickets. It was a very enjoyable show, great singing & very funny. Mrs Mirage says her toes are still tapping (she is a big Elvis fan). I deliberately didn’t read JB’s review till after I saw the show, agree with every word of it however. Go see it.

I’ve known Emilie for a couple years, having worked with her. She is a very talented girl and I encourage all to go and see her in this show.
