Following last week’s announcement of a heavy hitting review of the poorly performed ACT Public Service the ABC has a story on Dr Allan Hawke’s efforts to soothe the nerves of the pubes union CPSU:

Dr Hawke says his review will not lead to job cuts.

“It’s about how they deliver best policy advice to their ministers and the government of the day,” he said.

“I think it’s about how to monitor and deliver the policy outcomes that the government is seeking.”

There might be some Machinery Of Government changes though, so all is not yet lost.

Or does he already know what the problem is?

Problems:
(1) The Chief Minister’s Department; and
(2) ACT Treasury.
Can I get my consultant’s fee now?

I think the take away message here is: the beatings will continue until such time as morale improves!

Looks likes Stanhope getting Hawke to map out his post-retirement ministry.

I’ve never understood how cutting jobs is supposed to make poorly performing places do better.

It at least means you’re getting the poor performance cheaper.

And encourages the others.

I’ve never understood how cutting jobs is supposed to make poorly performing places do better.

But what if his review shows that the problem is one which could be solved by cutting some jobs? Or does he already know what the problem is?

Well, yes, I know the problem in an elected on.
