ACT Policing apprehended a 28-year-old man following negotiated surrender at the Aboriginal Tent Embassy last night (Monday, January 10).
Around 11.30pm police attended the tent embassy after a man and a woman flagged down AFP Protective Services Officers following an alleged assault and theft.
Witnesses said a man at the site threatened to shoot them. Police attended and set up a cordon around the man’s caravan.
ACT Policing’s Negotiators attended along with Specialist Response and Security members who, using the Armoured Rescue vehicle, negotiated the alleged offender’s surrender.
The offender allowed police to search his residence where they located items believed to have been taken in the theft and used in the alleged assault.
The man was arrested, taken to the ACT Watch House and later released on conditional Watch House bail.
Investigations are continuing.
Anyone who may be able to assist with the investigation is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers website on www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.
