As a result of information received from the public, ACT Policing has arrested and charged a man in relation to the robbery of a 75-year-old man on Saturday morning (February 23).
About 9.40am, the elderly man was followed from the Commonwealth Bank, where he had made a withdrawal, to the ground level Myer car park of Westfield Belconnen.
The alleged offender threw the man to the ground and kicked him several times. The offender fled after stealing the man’s wallet.
A 20-year-old Queensland man was charged with robbery and will appear in the ACT Magistrates Court this morning where bail will be opposed.
Belconnen Station Officer-In-Charge, Sergeant Matthew Corbitt said this arrest demonstrated the vital role members of the community play in assisting police to prevent crime and apprehend offenders.
“This is a positive result for ACT Policing that began with vigilant members of the public calling Crime Stoppers after seeing a facefit of the man in a media release that was sent out yesterday,” Sergeant Corbitt said.
