A 28-year-old man will face court today (Thursday, 28 June) for property related offences following an extensive, around-the-clock investigation by ACT Policing’s Criminal Investigation Crime Targeting Team.

Around 12.30pm yesterday (Wednesday, 27 June), police closed in on the man after receiving information he was staying at a hotel in Downer. A cordon was established and police arrested the man as he exited the hotel.

Following the arrest, detectives from Criminal Investigations executed a search warrant at the hotel and located keys to a Peugeot which was reported as stolen from a burglary in Kingston overnight. Police located the stolen Peugeot a short distance away from the Downer hotel. A search of the car located property linked to a number of other burglaries.

The man is suspected of committing multiple burglaries throughout the Canberra area over the past month, including the burglary in Forrest on Sunday 17 June, in which he gained entry to the house, obtained car keys and stole an Audi TT.

The man also has outstanding arrest warrants for offences in NSW and Western Australia.

He was taken to the ACT Watch House where he will be charged with burglary, theft, motor vehicle theft and unlawful possession of stolen property.

He will face the ACT Magistrates Court today, where police will be opposing bail, as the man is a suspect in more than 25 burglaries in Canberra recently.
