A 32-year-old woman from Franklin will face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Friday, February 24) charged with drug trafficking.

ACT Policing’s Drug Investigation Team executed a search warrant at the Franklin home yesterday afternoon following a six month investigation.

During the search police located and seized an amount of money, approximately 30 grams of cannabis, 11 pipes used to smoke ice, 10 pills suspected of being ecstasy (MDMA), approximately 20 grams of amphetamine (ice) and a revolver with ammunition.

At the conclusion of the search warrant the woman was arrested and taken to the ACT Watch House where she was charged with trafficking in a controlled drug, possess drug of dependence, unlawful possession of stolen property and having an unregistered firearm.

30 grams of Cannibas is approximately 30 small portions or ‘sessions’ or could be sold individually so could be seen as a trafficable amount.

an ounce (ish) in the old money. Used to be a deal when I were a lad

Franklin? I’m losing faith in Canberra stereotypes – surely that’s a typo and was meant to be Charny or Kambah?

OK, you riotact gun nuts, tell me – is that revolver a Webley?

Looks pretty ancient – but I guess it would still put a hole in you.

It’s a Mark 1V – calibre 38 S&W – very underpowered not even close to a 38 Special which itself is considered marginal as a fight stopper unless it is modified. These “crime stoppers” were popular bank teller issues last century. They were collecter items even then. Best used to bludgeon the robber into submission.

Yeah, not a very powerful round by modern standards. But I’ve heard people make similar comments about the 9mm. The only serious test is to ask yourself “Would I stand in front of someone while they shot me with one of these?”. In this case I’d say no. But I’m a wuss. I wouldn’t like someone to shoot me with an air pistol, let alone one of these things.

Hardly enough gear for a decent night out there.

The gun was probably an inherited collectors item stashed away in some cupboard. Cops love to spin this crap like they just made the bust of the century and another violent drug kingpin is off the streets.

It can’t be a Webley. Where are the twin towers?

LOL!! Ouch!!

I believe you’re thinking of wembley?

Re the revolver – as others have posted, it appears to be a Webley .38S&W calibre. Used to be Commonwealth/Australian military issue in WWII and up to about Korea.

They seems to be quite a few of these floating around, I suspect bought back by ex servicemen who acquired them.

Whilst a relatively underpowered round, I still wouldn’t like to be shot by one.

The one in the photo appears to be in reasonably good condition, at least on the exterior, so someone as obviously given it a bit of love and care over the years, and at least oiled it.

Not sure what the going price is on the “black market”, but when bought legally they only go for a couple of hundred dollars, unless they are in mint condition.

Amphetamine is certainly a drug of dependence – ie people get seriously physically addicted to it.

Because I thought I heard cannabis wasn’t really illegal in Canberra unless you were trafficing it I guess. Not sure how much 30g is but sounds too small to be considered that.

Someone with the time/incling to look up the legislation can probably confirm, but from memory I believe cannabis use is not legal per se, however the offence is de-criminalised?

Hmm yeah I heard something like that. Wouldn’t that mean that you can’t be charged for it though? So maybe they just mentioned it, but the other stuff was what got him the charges?

30g looks small but is just over an ounce equating to approx $300 street value. Cannabis use is not legal in the ACT but is decriminalised. That means that cannabis found to be for personal use and under a specific weight/volume (not sure what the upper limit is) attracts a $100 on-the-spot fine that you pay like a parking fine at the ACT Gubmnt Shopfront. You don’t have to front court and there is no criminal conviction recorded.

I’d guess she faced charges for “trafficking in a controlled drug and possess drug of dependence” in relation to all three substances. What a cocktail! What a girl!

.38 Enfield is my guess. Pretty much the same as the Webley though.

I’m with neanderthalsis on this one. Enfield No. 2 Mk I .38/200 Revolver.

.38 Enfield is my guess. Pretty much the same as the Webley though. It would be adequate for protecting your stash and/or scaring a shopkeeper/bank teller. If you want to be real gangsta though, a nickel plated .45 is the shish (preferably 2, held sideways).

Certainly looks like a Webley or a knock-off in the not-fantastic-quality image. From the stamp just above the rear trigger guard, it could be an Enfield Mk2.

I’m curious which one counted as the drug of dependence? Because I thought I heard cannabis wasn’t really illegal in Canberra unless you were trafficing it I guess. Not sure how much 30g is but sounds too small to be considered that. So the MDMA or the ICE? Or am I wrong? Just curious, cos I mostly hear the US laws from COPS hahaha.
