Detectives from ACT Policing’s Criminal Investigations team have arrested two juvenile males over the fire at the Kaleen Scout Hall which occurred on Wednesday November 24.
Around 2.15am ACT Fire Brigade and police were called to a report of a fire at the Scout Hall on Maribyrnong Avenue. The fire was extinguished and following an inspection by ACT Fire Brigade inspectors and AFP Forensics, the fire was deemed deliberately lit. The cost of the damage to the hall is approximately $200,000 and is likely to be demolished.
On Monday December 13 detectives executed search warrants on the homes of a 17-year-old and 16-year-old male, seizing evidence.
The 17-year-old was arrested later that night, charged with arson. He will be summonsed and will face the ACT Children’s Court at a later date.
The 16-year-old was arrested on Tuesday December 14 charged with accessory after the fact and aid/abet arson. He has also been summonsed and will attend the ACT Children’s Court at a later date.
