The Canberra Region Amature Radio Club has after 10 years been put into a position of having to move from it’s current premises.

The club is non profit and promotes the use of amature radio for communication and learning. The club is after a premises where we can meet and have a full time radio shack with about a double garage’s worth of storage.

The ability to erect antennas is also a requirement.

If any persons or organisation has some faciltities that can be put to good community use for a negligible fee, then this would be most appreciated.

We really do not want to see this hobby die and having a place to conduct the hobby with the community is essential for the hobby’s survival.

It really is a pity there isn’t a building specifically for the many clubs and hobby groups Canberra has.

IM doesn’t allow you to speak with astronauts on the ISS.

IM won’t work in natural disasters – first communications into New Orleans after Katrina was via Ham radio, likewise the Italian earthquakes.

Can’t provide staging and timing information in a car rally or mountain bike race via IM..

Ham radio? Have you guys heard of IM?

Don’t the Scouts charge (and get the $) for their own hall?

We are currently at Farrer Scout hall but the govt has got $$$$ in its eyes so we need to move. Our membership is only $20 a member per anum and to stay where we are would mean upping it to over $100 a member per anum.

Cheers,
John

You can get a radio made from ham?

Why, yes we are!

I remember moving into our new place in Conder in the early 1990’s. No neighbours, in fact, ours was the third house in the suburb, so – up went the 40 foot mast. Whoot – Nobody complained when it went up – I did ask each neighbour – and all I hears from the vacant lot over the half fence was “silence”

But as well as being scary, we also provide communication support services to many community events such as the Rally of Canberra, Scouts/Girl Guides through Jamboree of the Air, The Brindabella bike rides, etc, etc

Excellent!

Ham Radio enthusiasts are a truly scary bunch.

Maybe the ACT Govt could offer them some space at one of the disused school sites around Canberra?
