An ACTION breakdown every five hours.

action bus under tow

The industrious Alistair Coe has revealed the fruits of his digging into ACTION breakdown statistics.

“Bus breakdowns have increased markedly over the past year and its unacceptable for Canberrans to be paying so much for an unreliable and infrequent bus service,” Mr Coe said.

“Last financial year, ACTION buses broke down more than 1400 times, which equates to a breakdown every five hours they’re in operation.

“Canberra taxpayers give $321 every year for ACTION buses, whether or not they are in the eight per cent who actually use the service.

I’ve heard our breakdowns per km driven are actually slightly below the national average.

Has Alastair ever caught a bus? I mean this guys finds some obscure factoid and launches into his mindless tirades. This guy is, in my opinion, a first class, Grade A Twat and the good people of the the ‘Berra need to relieve him of his need to moan at the next election.

This completely unacceptable. We should immediately scrap and replace the entire fleet.

Can we scrap Alistair Coe while we’re at it?

Yes. Yes we can.

Funnily enough I caught the bus to work and back home today, and everything was working like clockwork!

Wonder if Alistair Coe even knows what a bus ticket looks like?

Considering the age of the fleet and the obviously poor funding, I’d say the frequency of failures is reasonable. I don’t think that the breakdowns are quite that frequent – but that is just a gut feeling.

This was the last thing I read at work before I left to go home, and on the way home saw 2 Action buses broken down.

$321 per year! That’s where my car rego goes!

Want a good giggle?

Head down to the Tuggeranong depot first thing in the morning (just before 7 is good, normally continues right through til 8 ) and watch the ACTION drivers and employees try to get to work.

Seriously! It’s hilarious! Numerous people in numerous cars all vyying to get in the same gate, and not one of them indicates or follows the road rules.

If watching that doesn’t make you crack a smile, check out the buses as they leave. If you’re lucky, one will come hammering out of the gates (they all do) and break down, sputtering to a halt.

This completely unacceptable. We should immediately scrap and replace the entire fleet.

Ok:

Action breakdowns 5.3 per 100 000km.
Industry benchmark 6.0 per 100 000km.
Sydney buses March 2011 quarter 6.7 per 100 000km.

Nothing to see here, move along.

Hang on, someone’s placed a dunce’s cap on my head

1400 breakdowns over 12 months

that’s 3.8 breakdowns per day (if you dived by 360)

how many bus services per day? I have no idea, but I would assume in the hundreds

that’s still a pretty low mean time between failure

Can’t wait for Alistair’s next press release: the sun rises in the east and sets in the west. The Canberra Times will no doubt hold the front page for that as well.
