The ABC have the happy news that $14 million has appeared in the form of a rectified miscalculation by the Commonwealth Grants Commission:
In February the Commonwealth Grants Commission recommended a boost to the ACT’s annual GST share of $116 million.
But the ACT Government was not satisfied.
It found a mistake in the way some tax data had been treated and asked the commission to reassess the figures.
ACT Treasurer Andrew Barr says the Territory’s share has now been adjusted.
“The bottom line of it all is a slight increase again in the ACT’s relativity from 1.18 [per cent] to 1.97 [per cent]” he said.
“The bottom line impact of that being roughly an extra $14 million to the ACT from the GST pool.
On can only hope there have been some kicked bottoms in the Grants Commission over not getting it right in the first place.
