Today Canberra makes history as the SIDS & Kids ACT Christmas Lights in the City breaks the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for the world’s largest LED light image display.
Canberra CBD Limited CEO Jane Easthope is delighted with the record breaking display.

“On behalf of Canberra CBD Limited I’d like to congratulate everyone who participated in this monumental achievement. It’s brought a magical presence to the Christmas in the City festivities and is a fantastic way to raise funds for SIDS & Kids ACT”.

“We’re extremely proud of everyone who put in efforts towards making this year’s display a reality. Canberra CBD Limited is particularly proud to have helped facilitate breaking this world record by paying for the extra lights needed to bring the Christmas lights from David Richards’ record display in Forrest to Canberra’s City centre.”

Consisting of over 1 million lights the display illuminates the CBD transforming it into a magical Christmas wonderland.

Providing a stunning backdrop to the City, the SIDS & Kids ACT Christmas Lights mark the beginning of the Christmas in the City festivities, with many events to take over the City in the lead up to Christmas.

Also launching in the City centre today at is Flip Out in the City which brings the latest bouncing craze into the CBD with an outdoor arena in Civic Square providing exciting and exhilarating fun for all ages.

Flip Out is open from 5pm today, and 9am every other day, and will run until Boxing Day (closed Christmas Day.)

The Floriade Kids Cubby House in City Walk and the Asia Cup Dome in Garema Place are also starting today. Complementing the dazzling lights is the government’s new Christmas tree.

As we get closer to Christmas other events spreading the Christmas cheer will pop up in the City including camel rides, roving entertainers, charity Christmas markets and night markets, and the Music Hub in City Walk.

Help us celebrate Christmas in the City by joining us for arguably the best shopping, dining and entertainment in the Capital Region. Like the SIDS and Kids lights which are open until midnight on most nights, many venues are open till late.

Tonight activities start at 7:30pm and then at 8:30pm the Chief Minister will officially turn on The SIDS and Kids ACT GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS Christmas Lights in the City.
