Andrew Barr is making noises about cleaning up the abuse of sports officials during games.

Over the coming weeks I will be speaking with various sporting codes, local teams and media outlets and I look forward to being able to make an announcement soon about how we can all chip-in to mount a sustained campaign against abuse in sport – especially abuse of children.

Sledging the ref is child abuse now?

Oops, tell a lie – he was talking about a 15 year old ref. I guess it’s just his turn of phrase – (verbal) abuse of a child doesn’t necessarily equal “child abuse”.

I suspect he’s talking about those charming parents that see fit to scream abuse at the kids on the opposing team.

For a second there I thought he’d said the campaign was going to be “sustainable”, and thought he must have forgotten what the word actually meant. I’m still not convinced that “sustained” isn’t a typo.
