Andrew Barr launched science week today. Which wouldn’t have been worth a story if his office hadn’t sent through a picture of him cavorting with a dinosaur.

Questacon have also sent through their program of events.

Of particular interest is the augmented reality overlays that are supposed to bring more dinosaurs into our lives (always a good thing IMHO).

Sadly my Android phone can’t find any dinosaurs but apparently in the Questacon offices it’s working sweetly.

    • Download Layar for either iOS or Android; then

    • Download the Jurassic Science Week ‘layar’

    • And… launch!

    • Then hit the streets and start hunting some dinosaurs.

How are the rest of you going with it?

Further to my above comment I just checked out the National Science Week website and it gives exact coordinates for the dinos in Canberra if people want to go looking (as well as what dinos they are and a couple of facts about them) http://www.scienceweek.gov.au/National/JurassicScienceWeek/Pages/JurassicACT.aspx

You won’t be able to see the dinos everywhere, dannybear is right they are only at certain gps locations. In the google doc linked it has the locations but it says (for those who can’t be bothered opening it):
“The dinosaurs can be found in the following locations.

Questacon—The National Science and Technology Centre
National Portrait Gallery
Near the Tent Embassy, King George Tce
Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House
Australian Parliament House
Near the fountain outside the Canberra Centre
The Carousel, Civic
The Chessboard, Garema Place
Civic Square between CMAG and the ACT Legislative Assembly
Building 6, University of Canberra
Refectory, University of Canberra
Refectory, the Australian National University
The Street Theatre”

That being said, I haven’t tried it yet either. Happy hunting.

Cranky has a point – a so-called science and education minister who guts a science and education program now promoting science with his self-promoting pics?

The science week activities might be great (they usually are), but leave Barr out of it to retain the credibility.

Not working for me either johnboy, maybe we actualy have to be at questacon to see the dinosaurs as it seems they are logged as gps points, I’m probably totaly wrong though 😛

This is video of the dinosaur costume in action

Science Week is the kind of thing Ministers love, as everybody posts attention to the fun media stunts. 🙂

Poor Cranky is certainly cranky. But suggest s/he go elsewhere to crank.

I saw this creature on the news tonight and I was mighty impressed. I’ve also had a look at the program for science week, and I for one will be out and about enjoying the events that the government, through this minister, is supporting.

Now, go crank your car!

Is this the same Andrew Barr who was identified in yesterdays CT as responsible for refusing access to a workshop by the Lake Tuggeranong College Solar Car Project?

Apparently the College paid for the construction of a workshop under the Tuggeranong Library.

Barr has now decided that, as the College has received some sponsorship money for it’s solar car project, these funds should be applied to lease payments for this previously unused area. Any remaining sponsorship dollars not required for these lease payments should be applied to insurance cover. This cover is apparently already provided under the Governments volunteer policy.

This garnishee of sponsor’s funds leave nothing for the Solar vehicle program. The program is now effectively dead!

The College have been told that alternate uses of the space would be as a broken furniture store!!

Strikes me that this Minister is being lead by the nose by public servants with an agenda, and he is too stupid to recognise the contrariness of this advice.

Barr is demonstrating his total ignorance of what science involves.
