Facing a censure motion for failing to front the Estimates Committee Andrew Barr has announced that, having failed to abolish the Exhibition Park board, he’s getting a new one.

The Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation Andrew Barr today announced the Government will seek new members for the Board of Exhibition Park in Canberra (EPIC).

The Government will also seek to establish an EPIC Community Advisory Committee to work with the new Board to provide greater community input into the running of the site.

A cash grab by Barr? Aparently EPIC has a very tasty bank account that they have not been keen to donate to the Gov.

Tosh.

It’s a Territory entity (a Statutory Authority), and its Act states thus:

s.7 Sufficient revenue policy
The corporation must follow a financial policy directed towards
securing revenue sufficient to meet all its expenditure properly
chargeable against revenue, unless the Minister otherwise directs in
writing.

s.12 Profits of corporation

(2) The profits of the corporation for a financial year must be applied in
the way the Minister decides.

land it’s on too..

i had heard that there were plans to take over the service station as a part of EPIC, was there any truth in that? it would create a revenue stream for the corp.

EPIC own the petrol station and the land on it, it’s always been leased to another party (currently shell, for now).

As for the board, Barr is known for cutting corners. It wouldn’t be the first time the Government have tried to do so with EPIC.

….and that woman who ran Rhodium……

I nominate Chic Henry as a member of the new board…….

That would be the Gov (ie. us) that invested in it in the first place?

Although saying what I did, I adored the markets there in the 80’s and seeing Accadacca there in 2001 was too good for words. Just need more good stuff!

I get a notice to vacate for failure to pay rent to live in a Govt. home and Chic gets to play hardcore at everyone’s expense after failure to pay rent to Epic or the Govt. or whomever. Rocket science not needed here as to why the board needs revamping with community consultation in mind. Even then they couldn’t organise a root in a brothel our Govt. and I seriously doubt it will improve much. Would actully need a clue about entertaining folk first.

Someon on the board must have done something to really offend the Government.

No but I worked there for a while and there were some pretty dodgy things going on as far as cash accountability. I could have walked out with thousands and no one would have known.

The Government clearly isn’t happy with the way EPICs being run. Anyone heard any specifics?
