The ABC reports that Andrew Blyth is taking over from the late long serving Chris Peters as CEO of the ACT and Region Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

“One of the major points that I’m going to be focusing on is that I believe that more can be done in driving private sector development in Canberra,” he said.

Mr Blyth says he wants to focus on what can be done to reduce the impact of predicted cuts to the public service.

“There is a tendency at times to forget the private sector and I aim actually to increase the awareness of the private sector that is here in Canberra,” he said.

If the worst comes to pass, for the first time in a generation Canberra will have cheap real estate and a ready pool of educated workers.

A good time to try and grow the private sector.

UPDATE: The Chamber’s media release is finally available.
