Andrew Hughes only here for a while

The Canberra Times reports that the ACT’s new Chief Police Officer, Andrew Hughes, is only hanging around until a better job with the UN comes through.

Also Audrey Fagan was great and totally on top of things (reasons for suicide are, we learn, “complex”) and they’re going to continue leading the AFP “forward” in the direction she had set.

Where we are going forward from, or even to, remains unclear and it seems is superfluous as long as it’s forward.

Did you have to use the word ‘hanging’ in there? That is in such poor taste given the circumstance.

Gee there’s a lot of spin around these days isn’t there? I agree with JB. “Forward”? What’s that mean?

I’m surprised they didn’t say “leading the organisation forward and considering the views and aspects of all key stakeholders to ensure a viable outcome for community policing, upholding and further developing respect for marginalised groups such as same sex couples, ethnic minorities and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, while providing support and professional development for members and staff of the service, all of which are valued and make a valuable contribution to policing in the Territory and the Commonwealth”.

What a load of guff. It says nothing! Come the revolution the PR spin doctors will be first up against the wall.
