Member for Fraser Andrew Leigh has tweeted about what he’s been getting in the mail in the runup to Monday morning’s Labor party leadership vote:

#respill corro: 800+ emails (mostly to all MPs), 100+ calls, 10+ letters, 1 dildo with rude message. Support evenly split, except last item.

But who do you want to see come out on top dear reader?

In the February 2012 ALP Leadership Ballot I want the winner to be...

May whoever is voted in on Monday (Gillard, Rudd or Dildo), be capable of defeating the wretched Abbott.

Don’t worry, Abbot has just defeated himself.

I’m sure it’ll get out tomorrow.

Never had a real job in his life, called the unemployed “job-snobs”.
never ran a business, blamed everything on the Carbon tax
Failed at becoming a priest, enjoyed boxing.
Wore too much lycra, was told to keep his mouth shut.
Couldn’t even do that, said “Climate change is crap”.
Could never quite hide his fear of the female.

Bye Bye Abbot. You will not be missed.

He was a rhodes scholar and then was going to dedicate his life to ministry before changing his mind and getting a few jobs and then getting into politics. Hardly the life of an unemployed person, I would say. Seeing as he wasn’t unemployed. He did run a business briefly apparently. Didn’t fail to become a priest, he decided not to be womanless for life lol. Lycra is worn by everyone in competitive bike riding etc.

So out of your points, all that is left is that he can’t keep his mouth shut and so lets slip poor wordings at times. Which is accurate, in my opinion, but not that crucial unless you are sensitive to out of context soundbites rather than full discussions and policies.

So has MR Abbot actually done some specific thing that will get him in the poo and we’ll find out about it tomorrow? I only ask because the things you mention, unpleasant though they are, have been out in the public domain for a long time.

Abbott is toast.

Apparently Henry knows something about Tony Abbott that the dozens of well-connected journos of News, Fairfax, and the ABC don’t.

Misogyny causes blind spots.

This week will be the Week of the Woman in Australian Politics.

Right. Wouldn’t matter so much if it wasn’t the right-wing leader of the Liberal Party, but it will matter to them.

yes, but an election won’t be held tomorrow – whomsoever leads the labor party after tomorrow’s ballot will be pm for a while and be judged by their performance.

Correct; now follow that through. It’ll either be:

Krudd – who outed himself as spineless and empty after a year in office, or
Princess Peach – who is universally despised.

Either Gillard stays and grows every more unpopular, or Ruddy comes in with a brief burst of popularity until people remember why he was booted in the first place.
A third option is Crean; nice enough bloke, but lackluster when in charge. Labor has been scrounging around looking for another option without success for years.

And since Abbott is bound to win against such rubbish, the Libs won’t replace him; they love a winner. Letting him focus on winning, rather than fighting off challenges, which makes it even harder for Labor.

We are talking about contrasting a family values stancs with issues around political staffers, right?

How odd. Everything says that if there were an election tomorrow Abbott would romp it in.

And by romp, I mean, decimate the ALP as if they were a minor party, which would not be a good thing.

Let’s say that again. Completely and utterly decimate the ALP. Voted into elctoral oblivion for at least a decade.

I say agin, this is not a good thing.

But of course, i could wrong….

yes, but an election won’t be held tomorrow – whomsoever leads the labor party after tomorrow’s ballot will be pm for a while and be judged by their performance. there will be a significant narrowing of the preferred pm polls results as they are currently biased towards an electorate fed up with the shenanigans of this leadership spill. i shouldn’t be surprised if there isn’t a third candidate to pop up and challenge as a ‘healing option’ between now and the labor decimation by the [hopefully] turnbull-led liberals in the next election…

I’m no Abbott fan – quite the opposite, in fact. But if he’s as hopeless as you suggest, why has no-one in Labor been able to put him back into his box?

Perhaps because he resembles a large part of Australia.

No, he’s more like a small part of Australia. The small bit down the bottom right-hand side.

Perhaps because he resembles a large part of Australia.

And because many people are very unimpressed with the performance of Labor.

I’m sorry – is there some sort of secret logic present in that statement?

If it ends up being close maybe Albo will do a Bradbury/ Abbott (but with wide support rather than having to rely on his own vote).

There is someone who knows and worked for her who doesn’t have many good things to say about her, yes. She even worked for him at one point.

“Letters to the editor are these days the domain of crazies and political staff”. That’s one possibility – but more likely you’d need to amend that to “halfway-literate crazies and political staff” to account for the puzzling lack of support in those pages for certain other political figures.

Rob Oakeshott’s fantastic, the way he has the gallery eating out of the palm of his hand at his windy press conferences, waiting for him to get to the (generally well-considered) point…

I am of the opinion that he is satirist who woke up one day to find himself in federal parliament, and decided to make the most of the opportunity while it lasts. It’ll be a terrible shame if he and Tony Windsor don’t survive the next federal election.

So, as of Monday, does this mean that we’ll all be hearing the catch-cry “Working Families” repeated over and over and over again?

I wonder who Peter Garrett’s backing for the big job?

Interesting observations from the SMH Letters Co-Editor – “Kevin Rudd’s supporters may claim he is popular with voters but that has not registered strongly in letters” and, if its letters inbox is any guide, “the front-runners would be Julia Gillard and Liberal MP Malcolm Turnbull.”

You know things are bad when even lefty economics correspondents like Jessica Irvine note that it’s a good thing that the executive government essentially plays no role in running the economy nowadays, to that the country can get on with business while this petty nonsense runs its course.

Of course, she’s bang on. Thank goodness Kevin Rudd never realised his vision of government being at the centre of the economy.

+1

Governments govern best when they govern the least.

So, on the Labor side we have a choice between an arrogant self-obsessed backstabber, and an arrogant self-obsessed backstabber.

On the Liberal side we have Mr Abbott, about whom I cannot express an opinion, because just thinking about him causes my gorge to rise.

Lovely. Where’s paul Keating when you need him?

I heard on ABC that MPs across the country who back Rudd were reporting “even split” while the undecideds across the country (who had no incentive to misreport) were reporting 85 per cent pro Rudd. Methinks Mr Leigh is fibbing and his calls were running 85 per cent pro Rudd as well.

I suspect The Dildo is a vote for Wayne Swan

Since none of us get to vote on Monday, what’s with all the press conferences? Don’t the caucus have each other’s nos?

Bring on Shorten and Turnbull, I say. Let them duke it out between them.

The dildo was obviously intended for Abbott – the pleasure apparently promised him by the polls has been frustratingly unfulfilled (remember he confidently expected to be getting his jollies well before last Xmas) and to date the only relief he has had in a contest that counts was when he had to rely on his own hand after he and others had shafted Turnbull.

Yep.

You have to wonder if these people have any ability to imagine what this whole farce looks like to use from the outside.

Kevin all the way. Ms Gillard is a smart woman but she is permanently tainted.
I just wish the Labor party would get over themselves, stop bitching that they personally ‘don’t like’ Kevin. Who cares what the party likes, it’s what AUSTRALIA wants that counts.

May whoever is voted in on Monday (Gillard, Rudd or Dildo), be capable of defeating the wretched Abbott. I do not need a Catholic preaching, ultra conservative, Public Service assassinating, work choice advocate dictating how I will be governed for the next couple of years. I support small business, but dread the arrival of Abbott and Co.

Why doesn’t he tweet about how 700 public servants are about to be shown the door, and that’s only across 3 agencies .. gutless no hoper really.

Doesn’t matter either way, Labor is screwed. Only thing we can hope for is they’re screwed so badly, the Labor illuminati (Arbib and co.) get’s tossed too.
