Animal Cruelty in Evatt

I thought everyone should be aware that there is another case of dog poisoning in Evatt. My Maltese shitzhu cross, Lilly was poisoned and taken from Sheehy St on Saturday afternoon. She was dumped out at Hall, where a motorist saw a white car dropping her out and driving off. Lilly was taken to the vet at Hall and spent the next few days recovering; she is now home with us and OK.

I’d like to thank whomever has helped to keep her alive and nurse her back, as well as put a warning out to the person responsible. This is apparently the third case of dog poisoning in this street (I am new to the area) and it seems the person responsible is known to have a grudge against dogs. You will be caught in the act eventually, and the full force of the law will be dealt to you.

To all residents of Evatt, please be vigilant with your animals and do not leave them outside unattended. The case has been brought to the attention of RSPCA and they are investigating.

Thanks

Scootergal

Oh, I forgot, you should probably get on to eBay and do a search for “GPS GSM”. I have seen keyringed sized GPS trackers for “pets, the elderly and cars.” They are about the size of a car keyring fob. The batteries last 48 hours. The price was less than $200 for the keyring units I saw. They were specifically lablelled as for tracking pets, not cars. The problem being though putting a dog at risk as bait to this person. Though being able to prove to police with 100% certinty where a dog is, even if she claims not not have it would put this person either behind bars, or would make them very unbwelcome in the suburb.

I certinly would not urge any vigalante action, or any action without proof. It would be very sad for the wrong person to be targeted.

Thanks everyone for your comments. We know who it is but cannot prove it, and she has killed two dogs in this street before we moved here. we have only been here three weeks, and our dog doesn’t bark that much, she just doesn’t like dogs living next door to her.

While the rest of the street is ready to lynch her in the middle of the night, I have to live next door to her and I feel the best thing to do is to keep my dog inside and only allow her out when I am present so as to protect her…and us.

Well a hell of a lot of people annoy me and I certainly don’t go around poisoning them…why can’t people who have a problem with animals just ignore it and get on with life. Is life that bad for them that they have to torture not only a poor defenseless creature but also upset the owners. Karma will get them back…. and I hope they suffer.

Hi Bronto. I certinly agree with your argument here. But some barking dogs are not easy to ignore. Some bark almost non stop for hours on end day and night. Still, I agree that there are right and wrong ways to deal with that, and killing, or trying to kill the dog is not the right way. I figure if worse comes to worse, de-bark the dog in extreme cases. yes I know it effects the dog’s ability to communicate, which is why I mentioned “in extreme cases”.

…people who harm animals are not mentally stable…please be careful if you find out who did it…they’re not likely to care about harming you either…

This is so terribly sad – your poor pooch. The person who could do this to a defenceless is very, very sick … seriously, what mentaly stable person could do this to a little dog? They need immediate help, as killing animals is the first step towards crimes that are much, much worse.

my maltese shih tzu also sends much love to Lilly!!! Feel better, love from Bertie!! 🙂

I think it’s so terrible that people can do this to animals!!! I am so, so sorry for what you had to go through worrying if your dog will get better… It horryifies me that people can and will actually do this to poor animals. I am soo glad that there are comments on here from people who share the same opinion as me on animal cruelty, I was starting to think that my ideas of punishment for these freaks was starting to get a bit out of control… Haha..
It makes me sick that people can stoop that low!! It has GOT TO STOP!!!! I really really hope they find whoever is doing it, that person needs to be locked up forever!!!

It’s not the full force of the law, but the full force of a brick hammer these people require.

The Sherlock Holmes inside of me says, if it keeps happening in the same street, and you got the colour of the car, wouldn’t it be worth taking a stroll to see who owns such a car in your street? Not that this is conclusive evidence by any means, but it may give you clues…

Please find that bastard! Dumping a half-dead body, leaving it to die is a terrible act of cruelty.

Yeah just look for the white car. There’s not many of them around 😉

Let me start by saying I love dogs, and the person(s) who did this should be ashamed/ have their toenails ripped out one by one…

I just want to throw another angle in here…

A friend of mine had a couple of dogs that were right little shits. They would bark all day when the owners were out. The people next door to them politely said something to them (as they wre retired and home most of the day) but my friends just told them to bugger off. They actually were boasting about it at dinner one night. Apparently the people next door then went to the police, who directed them somewhere else (RSPCA/ Govt or something), but they did little to help except send them a couple of letters… this went on for about three months.

Now I don’t know how ‘Scootergals’ dog behaves but what rights do neighbours have in relation to dogs that carry on barking throughout the day? I don’t have a problem in my area but just thought i’d pose a question?

PS. I have a dog and I love him

while this is a too-common scenario, it, and nothing, justifies the deliberate cruelty to animals – a trait that is one of the first on a report of most psychopath’s report, btw – and one might push your point, butter (great moniker, btw. one of my fave comedy lines is bubbles in ‘ab fab’ pronouncing, “i can’t believe i can’t believe it’s not butter is not butter”), what if the kids next door never shut up, howling screaming and carrying on all day and you were a night shift worker? is murder (or some deliberate harm) then justified? just posing a question…

I’d like to see the perpetrator of this cruelty given the exact same treatment.

My maltese shihtzu semds his get well wishes to Lilly, they are great little dogs

When it comes down to it, dogs dn’t have the intelligence of humans. They do what comes natrually to them. They bark. It takes human training to teach them not to bark. If you have an issue with the barking dog, you need to take it up with heir human. I mean dogs generally don’t even understand much English. How are you supposed to explain to a dog that they should not bark all day? You can’t do it in 5 minutes, you need to do it over a space of time and teach the dog through posative and negative reinforcement.

Humans are exactly the same, your whole like you are teaching your children what is right & wrong. My dog knows if I cross my arms it is time to come in & among other things he knows to sit & look both ways when crossing the road. Some 30 year old people don’t even know how to cross a road properly. I am 110% sure that the dog poisoner is not as clever then most dogs out there.

It might be worthwhile getting in contact with Neighbourhood Watch & maybe those that spend a lot of time at home could keep track of who is in your street during the day & night owls could watch the street at night. Maybe even go as far to walk your pets around the streets & watch the look on people you walk/drive past & make a note of these people. This goes for everyone & not just those in Evatt

I have to admit that I don’t like dogs. They can be noisey things and some of them bark all day. But there is a right way and a wrong way to deal with barking dogs. Calling your local council is the right way. Poisioning a dog is the wrong way.

Ahh, yeah, poisioning a dog is definetly going overboard with the negative reinforcement. 🙁

I’m glad your dog has lived to bark another day, even if I don’t like dogs barking. 🙂

Yes, some dogs annoy the hell out of me too, but I could never resort to hurting them. I do hope they find the culprits before any more dogs get hurt/killed.

Agreed. If the identity of the person was ever to leak out.. well…

Sounds like a new level of low. To poison a dog and them dump it away from its home to hide the evidence is just a horrible and cowardly act. To think that you would never know what happened to your dog if that kind motorist hadn’t intervened.

So well done to the motorist! And thank goodness you got your dog back and she’s OK.

Now we just have to hope that the cowardly person who poisoned your dog get what’s coming to them!

Scootergal – thank you for sharing this with us. Evatt unfortunately has a lot of problems (I suspect its the same individual that has been responsible for cat deaths in the past too).
PLEASE everyone be careful. Please copy this post and pass it on. Thank you scootergal for your courage and good luck to your little one. All the best.

So sorry to hear what happened to your dog. I really hope these cruel, gutless people are caught and given the full force of the law (which won’t happen). They need to get the same done to them.

Thanks for the tip, glad your little doggy is OK.

If your neighbours have a problem with its barking or any other issues with your dog, this is not the way to deal with it. Some people have no consideration that their pets are like family members. I’m glad you got your dog back and it is doing well.

That is terrible. Good to hear she is home now and ok

Oh, I am so sorry to hear that and so glad that your dog is doing OK now. What is up with some people? These are the sorts of people who go on to commit horrible acts against children and women. It’s a stepping stone in their psychosis. They should be locked up in a mental institute until they work out how to keep their cruelty and hatred under control.

Somehow I think the “full force of the law” might not be as much of a deterrent as “the full force of furious dog owners”.
