Not that long ago I dated a woman who couldn’t agree to meet at a time denoted by an even number.

That was, with hindsight, a bit of a clue.

On a similar note the Reserve Bank is letting the world know that from today until 24 August you can order special banknotes.

Many collectors aim to build a collection of banknotes based on serial numbers or signature combinations. Recent Australian banknotes include the year of manufacture in the banknote’s serial number, enabling collectors to acquire banknotes based on the year they are produced.

The following information is provided for those interested in collecting Australian banknotes.

Numismatic Banknote Arrangements

For a limited period of time, numismatic banknotes will be sold by the Reserve Bank of Australia. These include first and last prefix and standard uncirculated $50 and $100 banknotes produced in 2011. Standard uncirculated $20 banknotes produced in 2010 and $5 and $10 banknotes produced in 2008 will also be available. No requests for special or consecutive serial numbers for any first and last prefix or standard uncirculated banknotes will be accepted. For any orders of more than one banknote, the Reserve Bank of Australia does not guarantee that serial numbers will be in consecutive order.

Orders will be accepted from 16 July until 24 August 2012.

All orders must be submitted on a Numismatic Banknotes Order Form. [PDF 167K]

First and last prefix banknotes will be sold at set prices and standard uncirculated banknotes will be sold at face value. Postage and handling fees will apply to all orders.

Orders can only be shipped within Australia. All orders must be submitted in writing by mail on the original order form. Orders sent after 24 August 2012 will not be processed.

You can also pick up uncirculated notes (presumably unsullied) at the RBA branch office at 20-22 London Circuit, Monday to Thursday between 9.30 am and 4.00 pm and Friday between 9.30 am and 5.00 pm.

Why?

I bet anyone taking this up has a very neat wardrobe with all the hangers facing the same way.

My wardrobe isn’t exactly neat, but I HATE it when all the hangers don’t face the same way – at least for ease of getting them out when I need a shirt.

Also, once, after a successful night at the casino, I tried collecting $100 bills. That lasted until I found something I wanted to buy.

I would have cut and run. I can’t handle that level of irrationality.

There is nothing any more or less arbitrary about any particular minute of the day.

But she sounds nuts.

Maybe she had a strange watch…?

Me: Why can’t we meet at 10 or 11 o’clock?
Her: Because I can’t tell the time then.
Me: What?
Her: My watch only shows 9, 12, 3, and 6. I can’t tell any other time.

No she just had to meet at 10.01

Does anyone remember the “alternate” $5 notes?

What happened to them?

I think they were discontinued because the poker machines would not accept them…

Honestly I think the $50 dollar note will depreciate troll-sniffer.But that will be predicted by the bank selling it to you saying it’ll be worth something in the future. Maybe the point is, money won’t exist soon enough, get your collection now , as we’ll have only cards and accounts, easier to track and also able to sell your buying habit data to a third party. Charge you to use their service , and then profit from telling companies how you use their service. Minimise the risk , maximise the profit, pass on the negitives to the user.

OK that does it. I’m giving up my prime position on the Queanbeyan railway tracks (I hold Train Spotter Certificate 002 for those of you who don’t already know this) and I’m taking up bank note collecting. Imagine how much one of those $50 notes will be worth in twenty years!

The banknotes haven’t changed, who cares if they were made in 2008 or 2012. Some people…
