Another crane incident

The ABC brings word of a crane accident at a Baulderstone construction site in Civic:

The CFMEU says a worker at the Baulderstone site in Civic was almost killed when a three-ton concrete panel being lifted by a tower crane knocked over his four metre high work platform.

It says the worker escaped serious injuries by ‘riding’ the platform as it fell to the ground.

There are certainly a lot more cranes being used in construction in Canberra than ever before, is there an issue with getting everyone on the site using them properly?

“And you should see the pissy little connections they use to lift them with….”

take a close look at one some time, note the safe working load and how large they actually are. i do not work on that site but i do know the type of lifting gear used. it was not part of the problem.

workcover & CFMEU will no doubt give a report about it. untill then, if you dont know the facts and you wernt there its probably best not to throw stones….

More cranes because more concrete pre-fab stuff is being used. And you should see the pissy little connections they use to lift them with….

Apparently he could also have jumped in a nearby wheelie bin for protection from that 3 ton concrete panel.

That would have “wheelie bin” even more dangerous!

Well, at least they’re sharing the love.

I like how on Win local news it showed the site, and immediately behind the platfomr that was knocked over was a HUGE sign saying “MOVE NOW!”.

Maybe crane driver training should be compulsory for anyone operating a crane…

Maybe Scaffold Surfing should be compulsory training for anyone on a building site these days.
