Another CSG mulch fire

ACT Fire & Rescue and ACT Rural Fire Service are on scene at a mulch fire at the site of Canberra Sand and Gravel, Parkwood Road, Holt.

Size of mulch fire is estimated at 50 metres by 50 metres.

Crews are currently working to extinguish the mulch fire.

Update to follow.

7:38 AM

Nine fire tankers including Compressed Air Foam System (CAFS) tankers are on scene.

Crews are using plant equipment to break up the mulch, with water and foam being used to extinguish the mulch fire.

No property is under threat.

Fire is under control.

8:04 AM

Crews are continuing to make slow progress in extinguishing the mulch fire.

Plant equipment continues to be used to break up the mulch with water and foam solution being used to extinguish the mulch fire.

ACT Fire & Rescue and the ACT Rural Fire Service are continuing to make slow progress in extinguishing the mulch fire.

Crews are digging and spreading the mulch apart and using water and foam solution to extinguish the fire.

Crews have extinguished approximately 50 per-cent of the mulch fire.

ACT Fire & Rescue and the ACT Rural Fire Service are continuing to make progess in extinguishing the mulch fire.

Nine fire tankers are remaining on scene as crews pull apart the mulch with plant equipment, using water and foam solution to extinguish the fire.

Approximately 80 per-cent of the mulch fire has now been extinguished.

ACT Fire & Rescue and the ACT Rural Fire Service are continuing to extinguish the mulch fire.

Cause of fire is believed to be from spontaneous combustion.

Time of Emergency Triple Zero (000) call 6.54am.

3:42 PM

ACT Fire & Rescue and the ACT Rural Fire Service are continuing to extinguish the mulch fire.

Approximately 90 per-cent of the mulch fire has now been extinguished.

Crews will remain on site through the early evening to continue operations in extinguishing the fire.

5:32 PM

ACT Fire & Rescue and the ACT Rural Fire Service have extinguished the mulch fire.

Crews are now blanketing the area with foam to ensure no hot spots flare up overnight.

Fire crews will depart the scene shortly.

The ACT State Emergency Service Belconnen Unit has assisted with lighting towers through the evening whilst fire crews extinguished the fire.
