Another day, another failure on health service delivery

Jeremy Hanson is having another poke at the seemingly hapless Katy Gallagher.

It seems that her fully worked out plans for a secure mental health facility at The Canberra Hospital and a Young Persons unit at Calvary Hospital were both vapourised by reality when it came time to figure out where they were going to fit.

“This Government is about to commence a $1 Billion hospital upgrade project, and they stood hand on heart before the last election detailing how they were going to spend taxpayers dollars. The Government created the impression that the development had been fully planned, sited and costed.

“Now it appears that the TCH precinct is not an appropriate site for the Secure Unit and the Young Persons Unit can not proceed at Calvary as the Government promised.

Well, you’ve got to have aspirations.

FJ, Numpty is a term of endearment or affection, as in “Numpty Jon” and “Numpty Katie”.

FJ, Wiktionary is your friend and can provide extensive definitions; including for numpties.

thanks for the grammar lesson, but I did plurals in skool. I want a definition.

what’s a numptie? Or is that ‘numpty’?

It is getting increasingly clear that these numpties have no idea….

it has been perfectly clear that these numpties have had no idea for the last five years…

Bring back ‘No Self Government’ – honestly, they are such a predictable bunch of doofuses
It’s so frustrating to watch this kind of trumped up incompetence occur again and again.

Apparently the building itself would probably have fitted in OK, but as a secure unit it requires cleared areas around the building perimeter, and inside the escape proof fence. Simply too big a footprint.

Sounds like designs for a forensic unit, rather than a garden-variety locked unit. Am not sure if the original plans encompassed a forensic unit – does anyone know?

FWIW, I think they’d be better off re-shuffling the grand plan on the TCH campus so that the facility can be kept there, rather than being taken off site. Perhaps nix the stupid “medi-hotel” idea and take that site for the mental health facility?

Allows a clear shot at escapees I guess, without upsetting the pedestrians outside the fence.

The biggest puzzle for me is how, after all the blather on the new ward, how they got so far before someone slapped their forehead and said; “it’s not going to fit is it?”

Yes, and what’s that got to do with not building the youth thing at Calvary?

There are limits to how many stories of drinking and/or incompetence and/or delusions of grandeur non-Canberrans can bear. Of course, my sister lives in Matt Brown’s electorate in NSW and so she always has that trump up her sleeve.

What precisely do they mean by saying the TCH “not an appropriate site”? Not appropriate how?

On the bright side, they do make for witty dinner party anecdotes when you have interstate visitors to entertain ….

Perhaps we southsiders just enjoy a good laugh, jimbo.

Part of the problem is the absence of any sensible electoral choices out this way. I was reduced to writing “None of the above, please. They are all unacceptable.” on my last ballot.

As we are trained to be sheople, many just revert to names they know in the Party their Dad voted for. ~Sigh~

gallagher is fricking hopeless, and her incompetence is realised day by day. Sadly, the victims are my fellow Canberrans.

I do believe that the Libs suggested, some time ago, that a secure mental health facility should be part of the jail precinct – they were poo-poohed by Simon Corbell who claimed that Labor would be putting one on the TCH instead. In this instance JB, I can, with hand on heart say that the Libs had a policy (quite a good one actually) on mental health of which this was but a part. Another part was about benchmarking the MH spend at 12% of the overall health spend, which was, guess what, also abandoned recently by Labor.

Poptop, while I agree with your remarks, it still doesn’t explain why all those people vote for him

On behalf of the Brindabella electorate, I would like to apologise to all of the ACT for the election Mr Hargreaves onto you all.

I have no adequate excuses to offer.

But remember, it took The Chief to make him a Minister!!

So johnboy, you reckon the ‘tories’ could be worse than this lot? How could anyone be worse?

This is a town where more than 5000 people put the odious John Hargreaves as their number one pick at the recent election. Go figure.

Katy Gallagher + Stanhopeless = incompetence, yet Canberran’s voted this incompetent team back in.

I’m sure you meant to say “and yet the Liberals managed to present an alternative that was even worse”.

This is a small piece of a much, much bigger puzzle. They are planning on re-hauling the entire TCH campus – the mental health facility was only one bit of a much larger plan. If they’ve scuppered this bit, what are the chances that the other directives will fall down as well?

This has come about because, once again, the Stanhope govt has refused to consult – no consultation with mental health advocates, none with patient groups, none with any other group that could have looked at that crock of s!!t that they announced a couple of years ago, and told tham that it wouldn’t work.

What a bunch of Inspector Clouseau-act alikes.

Or convert Quamby into a secure mental facility, as was suggested by a Rioter a number of weeks ago.

The only thing in hapless Kate’s favour is that she didn’t have an official opening just before the election.

But I’m sure that’s only because she wasn’t “clever” enough to think of it.

These incompetent idiots have no shame.

Convert the new gaol.

Now it appears? NOW?

…But they’ve posted up all these pretty schematic pictures around the hospital! That shows thorough planning and forethought, doesn’t it?

Meanwhile, let’s wait for them to come up with a really, really obscure place to build instead. Somewhere far, far away from any medical support. Because that’s smart, right?

Now someone asks when the opening is?
