Another Franklin street name (or two) gets a make over.

Just days after I reported the untimely demise of the otherwise aptly-named Minnie Bruce Street in Franklin, today, while hurtling along Gungahlin Drive, I happened upon workers altering the street name on the huge green and white signs at the intersection of (what has been up until today) Oogeroo Drive and Gungahlin Drive in Franklin. Apparently, someone got the spelling wrong, and it should have been Oodgeroo Drive (being the name for the late aboriginal lady also known as Kath Walker).

Interestingly, a few metres north of this intersection, and still in Franklin, the names on (some) of the signs for Wells Station Drive were changed recently to Well Station Drive!

You just wonder about the cost of these blunders or alteration, and who has the job of proof reading road signs before they are sent out to be erected?

I’m surprised they didn’t call it ‘Oodgeroo Noonaccul Drive’ then.

Isn’t it Oogeroo Avenue not Drive? It rhymes…and sounds stupid because of it.

If my memory serves me correctly, some bloke phoned up Chief Minister Talkback on 666 earlier in the year and explained that the station was called “Well Station” and not “Wells Station”. The system works.
