Another Me-Too Election

Hot on the heels of the GDE “me too” farce, Jon Stanhope is showing great dexterity with another “me too”.

Here’s his media release from Friday. [ED – Infrastructure Plan to build on Labor’s billion-dollar first instalment]

And here is the Liberal release from three months ago. [ED – “Infrastructure Canberra” – The Canberra Liberals’ Infrastructure Plan]

You have to read past several pages of slagging on the Lib document to get to the start of the policy bits, but you can see some uncanny similarity. I wonder whether the Libs would keep the Labor board or start with new appointments?

I hope the election reporting does focus on the differences and this is not yet another situation of Tweedledum trying to look indistinguishable from challenger Tweedledee …

[ED – I’d ignored the Stanhope release as a re-announcement of a budget measure but I’ll let you all decide for yourselves.]

“Me too” or not, I take all election promises with a grain of salt, regardless of who the party is. It’s would be good to see less “we were gazumped” whining and just get on with the bloody job of politics. I hate hearing this classroom whining. Mind you, just watch in disgust as Australia’s finest politicians behave during question time. Never ceases to amaze or embarrass me!

Me Too-ism worked well for the labor party in the federal election, so why not try it locally. Besides, it saves money on having to hire policy developers when you can just pinch the ideas of the other side.
