ABC Online are reporting on a fire the otehr night at Football Park in Phillip causing $750,000 in damage.

The structure was well alight when the first fire crews arrived and it took 40 minutes to extinguish the flames.

Fire officers say it is unclear what cased [sic] the blaze.

Did the refit of manuka for football spell the inevitable decline of this ground?

Oh well, Cricket and afl will have to live with the fact there are people who hate the sport and would rather see the mentally retarded sport of Soccer. Were Australian People!!! AFL Australian Football Leage, OUR! defititive sport i’m going to cut their Genitals off, so they cannot contaminate the rest of the world!!

Dutifully done…

Kerces, you’re alive! Reply to my bloody emails, woman! :p

Well considering they’re about 200m apart I’m sure it doesn’t take a genius to figure that out…shame that the new and shiny Police Building, within arms reach didn’t act as a detterent.

Perhaps this is linked to the fire at the Koomarri building last week?

According to a story in today’s CT (probly not going online), that’s what the police think.

Seems like the arson bought more crowds to that ground than any other event of late. ANARCHY RULES!

Yeah, I remember thinking to myself that why would soccer want to take the place over because the field’s the wrong shape!

Such a shame. So many memories of Footy Park and it’s sad to see it in such a run-down state. They could have at least burned down the stand that was already condemned (on the other side of the ground) if they wanted to get their jollies. Wankers.

The stand was a wreck and needed total refurbishment anyway. Probably needed to be pulled down and replaced as it was unsafe.

The arsonist may have done the council a favour presuming the insurance premiums have been paid. Doesn’t excuse the pricks for the Koomarri fire though.

I thought the planned redevelopment was for AFL not gay soccer.

I recall that there was a push on to make the ground into some kind of new home for soccer in Canberra. Whatever happened to that idea?

I think the only thing that goes on at that run down ground these days is the grass growing, every time I’ve passed there lately the grass has been about knee high (That’s the impression I get from Launceston Street anyway)
