Reports are that Lachlan Kennedy is leaving WIN News.

Over the past few months he has been in the role of Acting Chief Of Staff here in Canberra but has suddenly decided to move on.

And we have had two big meetings recently, one with more than 60 people and last night with 125. Not a camera in sight, despite ample notice.

Got a write up for us Al? My flight home got delayed so I missed that session last night on the NBN.

I am finding myself agreeing here. I can’t remember the last time GCC had a story covered by WIN. And we have had two big meetings recently, one with more than 60 people and last night with 125. Not a camera in sight, despite ample notice.

They need staff to do that and quite frankly I think that downsizing and syndication is a trend in the regional media industry (both TV and radio) that wont be bucked anytime in the near future.

You’re better off coming here for local news.

Sorry, but I have to take the opportunity to say that I simply don’t buy the gushy comments(going back to at least April)about WIN’s ‘dedicated half hour of local Canberra news’. It seems that there’s been a real change, which seems, weirdly or not, to coincide with the departure of Jessica Good and the arrival of Danielle Post.

What we now get, for the 300 000+ residents of the nation’s capital, is a couple of Canberra stories and whole lot of time taken up with ‘regional’ stuff about the Illawarra and wherever, which really has nothing to do with Canberra. Given everything that deserves to be reported about in the ACT itself (esp. if we had journalists who did more than rely on faxed media releases), 30 min (esp. deducting time for sport & weather) is not a lot of time to fill.

I know it sounds like I have an incredibly parochial outlook, but it’s not that — I like to know what’s going on and am a news freak who reads national & international newspapers online, as well as crikey, etc. — but I am increasingly frustrated with the irrelevance and sheer boredom of WIN’s ‘local’ news, when there is really the potential there to be a news service for Canberra. But maybe the ACMA rules tell it to do otherwise?

Ever since the retirement and subsequent passing of Peter Leonard and Smally’s departure, the news coming out of WIN has dropped away. Perhaps the posting about an Illawarra focus on the news is a result of the station ownership and a push to stamp where the brand is based.

We can only hope things get better because SC10 and Prime offer such inept and poor local reporting in their news grabs that we’ll not know what is transpiring within the Capital – except for Riot of course.

Manner, not manor. (Self correction)

High time they reactivated the Peter Leonard Scholarship.

Lachlan Kennedy though will be a real loss for the network. He’s the only one their who comes close to the late, great Peter Leonard in terms of professionalism and manor. Certainly wish him all the best.

there, not their. (Someone had to, sorry….)

And I was looking forwards to seeing Erins mo too… 🙂

No need to apologise, silly error on my part.

As for Erin, you may see it yet. Word has it her new job is coincidently in the same suburb as the Nine Network’s HQ.

Erin can try me out on any Tuesday.

Nor am I Creative Canberra, but I’ll save my bubbly till Carmody is gone from the ABC 🙂

Still a vacancy for K.Rudd then…………

Not sorry to see Erin go I must say, her tone and manor are just awful. I would suggest she is best suited to those toothpaste commercials where they dub a new voice over the person with the perfect smile.

Erin Molans last day is next week as well.
