There’s another Severe Thunderstorm Warning for large hailstones, very heavy rainfall and flash flooding been released by the BOM at 13:23 today.

A check on the BOM website shows a heavy storm cell over the ACT and the lightning tracker shows lots of strikes.

While listening to the scanner there was a report of heavy hail in Cooma setting off building alarms.

I hope everyone has their cars under cover!

[ED: sorry we missed this one, there were indeed very large hailstones]

Light rain only to the north – watched it all slide by to the south-west. But then given the hail and the relo’s car parked outside, maybe that was a good thing…
I note ABC news has statements that the majoriyt of damage was due to gutters being blocked by hail and backflowing into the ceilings.
We are planning a new house and intend putting that enclosed Smartflo guttering on to keep free of leaves (bushfire risk) but there’s another benefit discovered.

Rained HARD for at least an hour in Hawker, with wind and hail aplenty. Best storm I’ve seen since moving from Darwin. Water was up to the 2nd step of my place at one stage – massive.

It happens all the time in Collector. Yesterday is the first time I’ve ever seen rain on the radar for Collector. Normally it rains strongly in Canberra moves steadily towards Collector, then gradually dissipates, or even splits in two and goes around collector – it is really wierd.

I watched the radar which showed the angriest storm hanging off Tharwa for about two hours yesterday. Huge red/brown centre section (which indicates heavy rain). Then it just pretty much vanished, and Sth Tuggeranong got about 1/2 a ml. How does that happen!

Stuff all down in Conder.

Nice heavy rain in lyneham and small hail. The roads were about an inch deep in water.

The trees on the nature strips really needed this rain.

Lightening hit a large tree down near Mongarlowe blowing the top off and leaving the branches on the ground alight. Braidwood RFS brigade had it out quickly though…

You are lucky – here in my part of Tuggers we got only a few mins of very light rain, to add to the miniscule spits we got yesterday. I doubt if together it added up to one mil.

We had heavy rain and small hail for about 15 minutes in Gungahlin – the amount of water flowing down the road was great to see.

No need to water the trees with grey water buckets tomorrow!
