The Australian Rugby Union has announced that Canberra’s getting a second test match in two years!

This time against Fiji on 5 June, 2010.

“Canberra embraced the return of International Rugby,” said ARU Managing Director and CEO John O’Neill.

“There was a real buzz about the city and the media coverage was great.

“When it came to deciding where we would stage the Test against Fiji next season, the experience of this year certainly weighed in Canberra’s favour.”

Mr O’Neill said the Fijians, apart from boasting crowd-pleasing flamboyance and flair, would also return to Australia – for the first time since the countdown to the 2007 Rugby World Cup – with an impressive addition to their portfolio.

Hopefully our brave lads will play better next year!

From my somewhat dodgy memory, I thought the Australian Government had imposed sanctions against Fiji … certainly the sanctions imposed in 2000 banned national sporting teams, however I can’t find a reference this time around.

Absolutely. Will def try to get along to support the Wobblies again.

This is a good thing. We need regular test matches here…& Rugby is the only sport giving them to us.

This is the A-league right. 😛

Surely we can find a better team to play the Fijians that the Wonky Wallabies – perhaps a girls team.

Woohoo, we might be able to get a win. Maybe.
