Raven and rubbish

As I went for a bike ride around Lake Ginninderra this morning I noticed a large flock of Australian Ravens had gathered to feast on a disgusting amount of rubbish left behind by people who used the BBQ. (right next to Ginninderra College)

The state of the picnic ground was appalling; benches were trashed, bits of food were scattered around, the cooking plates were covered in a layer of burned fat, …

I don’t like this, show some respect for f sake!

Idiot. Look at the photo. The pattern of the rubbish left was classic bogan. I suspect this was a bogan family do, the clue is the bench with the bend in it, where the bogan mum sat while she doled out the bogan food to her 8 fat kids. After she got up to leave, the blue shopping bag disappeared behind her rotund middle and was not noticed in her haste to depart the rubbish infested site, that had been pristine before her arrival. Unfortunately for society, her bogan brain could not make the connection between her brood and the filth spraed around and she will swear to this day someone else was responsible for the mess and they should pay big time.

Birds raid bins. Get over it.

A toolbox of bogans?

That would imply that they are employed besides, most tools are useful…

“After a couple of minutes I proceeded inside, on my way there some bloke wandered over and told me the child was his and not to worry.”

Apparently the car was watched, as per your story where you were approached after entering the premise by a man who had clearly seen what you were doing from inside.

While I understand Capt RAAF’s ideas, he seems to be unaware that such neglect is crucial for keeping the bogan population in check.
If he goes around town being too vigilant, before we know it, the city will be overrun with wild bogans of every size, colour and creed.

Babies can easily choke on things like dummies, squirm themselves into situations where they choke to death on seatbelts and just because you are watching the back of your car from the other side of a car park doesn’t mean squat, you’ll get back to the car and find a dead baby!

On the other hand, unless you want to watch your baby 24 hrs a day (which you cant even if you are in the car), you have to trust that this will not happen and, inevitably (given that there are 7 billion people), the odds are that it wont happen. Do you tell off parents who leave their baby sleeping in another room? Or who, i dont know, actually go to sleep themselves and don’t keep an eye on their kiddie at all times? Dont you think you were somewhat of a smug self important smug #### for telling someone off for leaving his baby in a watched car for a few minutes?

I trust you don’t whinge about the nanny state or how gen Y are all whingers with no self motivation, since that is the outcome of your form of parenting.

Whereas the OP was complaining about an actual problem.

That’s just it dtc, the car wsn’t watched, I could have taken the kid and no-one would have been the wiser, but you just continue reading what you want to read champ.

Now, if you could legally approach them with a .308, that would even things up a bit, but alas…

If you had a .308, you wouldn’t need to get all that close….

I guess it depends on whether you’re feeling charitable or not.

@astro I considered ugh, but thought that was more westie than bogan. Maybe a boot of bogans, which provides multiple reference, including ugh boots, as well as the tendency to pile into one car. Mind you, that would serve better as an analogy, i.e as full as a boot of bogans.

Was this before or after he beat you up?

ohhh Captain RAAF you are a true hero.

p.s cool story.

A torana of bogans?

a flannel of bogans, love it!

I noticed a lot of Maccas rubbish

it is sad and astounding how often litter emanates from maccas – what does this say about the sort of folk who pay this insidious multinational purveyor of obesity any of their hard-earned..?

as for a collective noun for bogans: an ugh of bogans? a flannel of bogans? a winnie of bogans?

What is the collective noun for bogans?

A mully of bogans is a bit predictable, and not universal. Any thoughts?

When I see stories like this, the first thing I ask myself is ‘So would you have had the balls to say something to these pigs if you saw them walking away from the mess they made?” Good on you if you would, but so many people are too scared, too gutless, they’ll make a big song and dance about the problem from the safety of their armchair but when it comes to making a stand it gets all too hard.

Problem is, I suspect it was a group of bogans who did this, and I doubt they would have any qualms about ganging up and bashing an individual, over the relatively trivial issue of litter. It’s one thing to approach an individual male. It’s another to approach a group of males. Even if you’ve trained for several years in a martial art, that scenario is high risk/little reward and you would do better to walk away from it. Now, if you could legally approach them with a .308, that would even things up a bit, but alas…

I remember parking in the Shell Servo at Fyshwick (the one with the Hungry Jacks in it) and I noticed in the car beside me was a baby in a car seat. There was no-one else around, I looked around and no-one came over to see what I was doing as I was making it quite obvious that I had noticed this baby in the car. After a couple of minutes I proceeded inside, on my way there some bloke wandered over and told me the child was his and not to worry. I proceeded to give him a serve and he got all defensive and angry, threatened to beat me up and that he ‘knew how to look after kids’.

I could have taken the easy option and walked off shaking my head but stuff that, I gave him and his wife , who was busy inhaling a whopper, an earfull and to wake up to themselves. The moral of my little rant, well it’s all very easy to complain later on but if you don’t make a stand when you see something wrong, then you are part of the reason why society is going down the toilet. Step up and set the standards and shame these pigs in front of all and sundry, if your’e scared of a confrontation then best you stay at home.

I’m sure you would have doen the right thing but sadly you’d be in the minority, nowadays.

The collective noun for ravens is an unkindness.

🙂

A step down from the “murder” that crows get.

They must have been on a cross town rampage. On arrival at work this morning in Fyshwick I noticed a lot of Maccas rubbish near my car park. Outrageous!!!

ConanOfCooma10:12 am 07 Jun 10

So this particular site affects you, or do you just not know about the rest of the wanton littering around Canberra after any weekend?

I’d rant about parents not teaching their children values, but hey, this is Canberra!

troll-sniffer10:04 am 07 Jun 10

…correction on re-reading… It doesn’t change the fact that the owners of this disgusting display are bogans for leaving it there.

troll-sniffer10:03 am 07 Jun 10

Unfortunately it’s the cost of having to share our oxygen with the bogan element of our tolerant society. Perpetrators need not necessarily be obvious bogans in their appearance, we have all seen any number of facets of society leave messes like this. It doesn’t change the fact that the owners of this disgusting display aren’t bogans for leaving it there.

Fact is they are bogans displaying bogan behaviour and no amount of preening and parading their gloss enamel exteriors, inside they are of true bogan stock.

This is pathetic. Its not as if there isn’t bins around. Shame that people dont get booked for this sort of thing. You would hope that at least the rangers would be empowered to do this in some way. Catching people out I guess is the trick.
