The ANU has announced they’re providing talent to the ABC’s News24 channel for “Future Forum – How Will the Asian Century Shape Australia’s Future?”.

The first in the Future Forum series will be filmed in Darwin with an eight-strong expert panel moderated by ABC Lateline presenter Ali Moore. The ANU panellists are: Dr Katherine Morton, Dr Nicholas Farrelly, Professor Andrew MacIntyre and Professor Hugh White.

The discussion will kick off with a background briefing that paints a picture of the Asian region growing economically and in global influence and power, as US dominance wanes. The question will then be posed: what choices and changes will Australia be confronted with in this new world and what do we need to do to ensure we are not left behind?

Questions will be taken from the audience, and a resource-rich ABC Future Forum website established to provide access to research and information on the topics discussed, to take the conversation further.

The Future Forum series is being produced as a joint venture between ANU and ABC News 24, with support and input from the HC Coombs Policy Forum working in cooperation with the Communications and External Liaison Office at ANU.

On a side note, I did suggest the idea of an interactive forum and interviews with ANU academics late last year for the relaunch of the paper.

That was meant to say Woroni too for the avoidance of doubt about what “paper”.

What a perfect match. “Academics” from the University of East Bumcrack on the ABC. They deserve each other. Yawn provoking pompous twaddle but the pity is that we are paying for it twice – the salaries of the “academics” and the costs bourne by the socialist propaganda apparatus in producing it and putting it to air.

Awesome! A lot of ANU academics (and those at other Unis) have some great things to share but the media typically doesn’t have the space nor many of the readers the attention span to give them a go. Between this and a new website called “The Conversation” launched by Unis, things are looking up.

On a side note, I did suggest the idea of an interactive forum and interviews with ANU academics late last year for the relaunch of the paper. They never did anything about it, weren’t interested. They did have plenty of column inches for a bed being thrown out the window of a resi and a two page feature on discovering Porn though. Very sad really.
