The Australian National University is very excited that a ranking of the reputation of its philosophers has put it in the lead in Australia and ahead of all but one UK university:

ANU took out the top ranking in Australia, ahead of the University of Sydney’s philosophy department, the only other Australian institution in the top 50, which ranked at 45.

Internationally, ANU ranked 15 in the world, equal with Cornell University and The University of California, Berkeley, and ahead of every department in the United Kingdom except that of Oxford University.

So where did the University of Woolloomooloo rank?

my understanding is that anu philosophy has always been world class; while australian students typically required a good first to get into a doctoral program in oxford, an upper second from anu was considered the equal thereof. firsts were akin to hen’s teeth here.

so little surprising here. and usyd philosophy department has a healthy contingent of ex-anu lecturers/doctoral students, btw.

Oh dear, Johnboy. Please don’t make me link to Bob the Angry Flower.
