The Australian National University Football Club (ANU FC) is Canberra’s biggest football club, with over 200 players registered in 13 teams in 2012. Founded in 1962, the ANU FC is also one of Canberra’s oldest clubs and is this year marking its 50th anniversary.
The first celebration to commemorate the ANU FC’s golden anniversary takes place this Saturday 31 March at Willows Oval ANU, corner of Barry Drive and North Road. ANU FC Community Day kicks off at 10.30am with a BBQ of World Cup proportions. There will also be fresh coffee and activities for kids including a jumping castle and face painting by the Gecko Gang. At 11am, an ANU FC All-Star XI will play a team of ANU FC Ex-Presidents in a feature match on Willows Oval. There to watch all the action will be Andrew Barr MLA, Shane Rattenbury MLA, Steve Doszpot MLA, Capital Football CEO Heather Reid, Capital Football President Rachel Harrigan, and Mick Brady from the ANU Sport and Recreation Association.
But enough talk, because ‘talk is cheap’… or as we say at ANU FC, vilis est sermo! See you Saturday.
