The Australian National University Football Club (ANU FC) is Canberra’s biggest football club, with over 200 players registered in 13 teams in 2012. Founded in 1962, the ANU FC is also one of Canberra’s oldest clubs and is this year marking its 50th anniversary.

The first celebration to commemorate the ANU FC’s golden anniversary takes place this Saturday 31 March at Willows Oval ANU, corner of Barry Drive and North Road. ANU FC Community Day kicks off at 10.30am with a BBQ of World Cup proportions. There will also be fresh coffee and activities for kids including a jumping castle and face painting by the Gecko Gang. At 11am, an ANU FC All-Star XI will play a team of ANU FC Ex-Presidents in a feature match on Willows Oval. There to watch all the action will be Andrew Barr MLA, Shane Rattenbury MLA, Steve Doszpot MLA, Capital Football CEO Heather Reid, Capital Football President Rachel Harrigan, and Mick Brady from the ANU Sport and Recreation Association.

But enough talk, because ‘talk is cheap’… or as we say at ANU FC, vilis est sermo! See you Saturday.

I did not realise this would cause such an issue! Allow me to rephrase: “The Australian National University Football Club (ANU FC) is ONE OF Canberra’s biggest football clubs, with over 200 players registered in 14 teams in 2012. Founded in 1962, the ANU FC is also ONE OF Canberra’s oldest clubs and is this year marking its 50th anniversary.” And yes, this is soccer, the most popular sport in the world, played by over 250 million players in over 200 countries 😉

This would be the soccer club, then?

I think Tuggies might pip you, but congratulations on 50 Years! What’s a team between on-field rivals?

It’s a close call… I guess it depends on how many teams ANU FC and TUFC enter into competitions in 2012; ANU FC actually has 14 this season (not 13 as initially listed). It is true ANU FC no longer has Premier League or Pathways teams, but we have teams in every single State League and Masters competition as a result. Either way, both ANU FC and TUFC are both big Canberra clubs with a rich tradition of football.

Technically TUFC are the biggest men’s football club as ANU no longer have a Premier League or a Pathways team.
