ANU gets spayed: Say goodbye to its N.U.T.S.
ANU Bar, Thursday december 8 7.30-late

The ANU’s longest running student theatre society, N.U.T.S. (National University Theatre Society) is closing down so we are having a party! Come to the ANU Bar and help celebrate with a line-up of awesome local acts, including Vorn Doolette, Dahahoo, The Missing Lincolns, Hancock Basement and Fire on the Hill. NUTS members get in free, students $2, general public $5. Happy hour prices all night!!

NUTS has been around for 5 years and in that time we’ve put on such classics of theatre as Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, Measure for Measure (we did it before Bell!), Romeo and Juliet, Dead White Males, and some crazy stuff like Gustavo Ott’s Pavlov: 2 seconds before the crime, Steve Martin’s Picasso at the Lapin Agile, and an original production, One Night Only: Dallas Rockwell’s Confessional Tour.

If you’ve been involved with a NUTS show in the past or have seen one and liked it, come along, have a chat, and drink with us to commemorate the passing of this lovely little nugget of student theatre.

In other words, a thousand flowers have bloomed, but none of them in your backyard…

several reasons.
a) the main NUTS crew has been running the society for 5 years or so and, despite encouragement to other members to join the executive, have had little response/interest from them. and we’re tired!
b) there seems to be some stigma attached to student theatre in the ‘berra which means we’ve had little support from major media outlets. which is sad but true.
c) tho (don’t get me wrong) we’re proud of the role we’ve had in building a lively theatre scene around the ANU, we’ve now built ourselves out of a job since there are now a gazillion plays being mounted here next year and there is a dearth of actors and production staff to support them.
but, having said that, if anyone is interested in starting their own theatre society, we’d be more than happy to chat about it & dispense sage advice at the party!

Why is NUTS closing down?
