China News has this story on the ANU along with ANSTO (Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organization) announcing their partnership in order to “develop a waste-free energy solution through so-called fusion power.” The ANSTO media release is here.

They’ll also look into uranium based nuclear power, and Australian Science Minister Kim Carr said the government is still committed to “ensuring Australia’s coal industry and renewable solar, wind and geo-thermal sectors had a future.”
