The Shanghai Ranking Academic Ranking of World Universities is out and it’s not pretty reading for Australia.

The US and UK dominate with Japan, Switzerland, Canada and France getting smattering of entries in the top 40.

Melbourne University get in at 57, and then our ANU makes 64.

Barely scraping into the top 100 are the Universities of Queensland and Sydney.

Yeah, in absolute terms it may not be great. But on a per capita basis, we have something like 0.3% of the worlds population, so filling 4% of the entries on this list isn’t too bad.

Yes! Maybe if we dodge that stats around enough, we can claim to be the best – just like with the Olympic medal count!

After all, that’s what matters!

i wonder how long this will last with the new vc seemingly staying up late finding new and meaningless ways to annoy people and distract them from their jobs. the mass exodus of virtually all executive management at the same time does not bode well, nor does it feel one with a great deal of confidence.

ian ought to be subjected to the same ridiculous popularity contest measure of performance he’s foisting on teachers.

..and WA.

Thanks china plate!
